On our way to the CMCMI rally in Rapid City this last Sept. We ran into large areas that there was no internet, or cell service. That happens out here in the midwest. And other area's of the country. You're going to miss emergency contact the most in remote area's. It does no harm having it available. As to the light in the pod. All my emergence stuff is in my pod because hopefully I'll never need it. But on a lonely stretch of highway at night is also where I'll wish I put it in. As I'm not having to deal with holding a flashlight. Or no light at all. There again. No harm for having it. Bob Dunanugh Member GMCMI Iowa,78 Royale

If you're not going to go in there much, you may want to consider just a battery powered "stick on" light... Would prevent the need to penetrate the hull of the GMC for wiring as well...
I bought a set of these from Costco a while back for inside some cabinets that were poorly lit...
http://costcocouple.com/duracell-led-undercabinet-lights/
They have both a motion sensor and a photocell so they only light up when you are there and it is dark... They also have an override switch if you need it and the package comes with batteries included, mounting brackets and screws/stick on stuff. Had them in the cabinet for over a year now... I probably go in that cabinet several times a week and so far the batteries show no sign of needing replacement. They are surprisingly bright, too. New duracells are supposed to be guaranteed to hold a charge for 8 or 9 years I think if unused, so if you only go in there once in a while, cost of batts would be low...

I believe I'd disable the motion sensor... for fear it would stay on most of the time the coach is moving, and trash the batteries.

It depends on the pod. I noted elsewhere, my pod opens to the rear. I consider this a much safer arrangement than one which opens to the side. There's plenty of room behind mine to kneel or sit safely while I drag stuff out or replace it. I very seldom stand on the roof, I'm acrophobic.
