Ernie. The Nebraska State Fire Marshal has equipment that detects hydrocarbons. Oil. Thus an accelerant on the floor. And to him there was no reason for an accelerant to be on the floor. Thus someone put it there. And to him. I was the only one that had a reason to do that. It's called insurance money. And I had told him that there was no way it could have been there. On the 5 hour drive home. I figured it out. Basicly. He found the hydrocarbons. The case as solved right then. So he stopped his investigation. Below is the e-mail that I sent State Farm. And the Fire Marshal. He was pissed about the e-mail below. And called me to tell me that.Bob Dunahugh

There was a roof A/C unit just back of the front seat. That unit was 12,000 BTU's. That type of unit is a rotary vain compressor. An had R-22, and just under 1 pt of oil in it. All under pressure. The Oil type should have been 3GS, or 4GS . The pressure in the soldered copper tubing in this unit are. At 80 degrees, the internal pressure will be at 143PSI. At 150 degrees it will be at 381 PSI. As the temp increases. The PSI will also increase. When that unit was outside on the roof. The temp wasn't high enough to melt the solder joints. When the roof A/C unit fell from the roof into the fire. The temp at the solder joints would have allowed the soldered joints to come apart. Thus allowing the hydrocarbons in the R-22, and oil to be forced out under vary high pressure in the area of the floor. Your lab should be able to confirm this oil type from what you said. Had lots of time going home to think about hydrocarbons. And where they are. And how they got on the floor. So I figured it out for YOU.Bob Dunahugh

Bob,

What do you think the Fire Marshal's reaction would have been if you had finished your email with "I hope the information above
helps with the investigation."

Rob, The time to be polite was over when the Fire Marshal jumped to an
EZ solution to the fire without taking in the whole scene and calling it
arson. I take it that he didn't know what he was looking at, IF he saw the discharged
roof A/C unit in the area of the fire.
I understand that there is a time, place and way to do things the
PC way but once accused of a criminal act without doing a complete investigation,
it is time for the gloves to come off. I've done it in the military and in
civilian life with TSA and Customs. If you know you are right and the local authority will
not listen, then it is time to take it to a higher level. Never "cop" to a crime
you never committed just 'cause it is convenient to someone else.

That's my rant for the day. Wink
