I had to turn on WiFi security at our airport on the guest WiFi access due to the intentional interference from a local off airport hacker. Now we have to hand out a passpharse (password) to tenants and visitors outside of the main terminal building. Open access is still available inside the main terminal building.
I discovered that my Windows 10 tablet would not connect to the new secure system while my Windows 7 machine had no problems. I have seen this problem before at a local university, a local hotel, and a campground but never fully investigated it.
It turns out the both Microsoft and Apple have decided to drop support for for WPA version 1 (TKIP) while keeping the older WEP and the newer WPA2 (AES) encryption standards. I do not think Android has the problem.
I am looking for a work around for this problem which started with Widows 8.1 and continues into Windows 10. It turns out the code is still there, they have just removed the ability to access it and setting your connection profile correctly.
I mention this here in case in your travels you are having random connection problems running Windows 8.1 or later, this is probably your problem. I can not speak to connection problems on Apple.
Has anyone out there already investigated this and come up with an easy solution to the problem?

I looked at that but have not tried it yet.
I tried to connect on my Windows 7 and then exported the profile using netsh. The problem I ran into was on Windows 10 the "import" function does not exist so I could not install it on the machine.

Billy,
I think I got it now. The syntax of the commands was a real problem but I finally got it. The command syntax and directory locations changed from version 7 to 8.1 and again in 10. I do not think I could repeat it. I basically configured and tested a profile in version 7. Then I exported it to a USB stick as an .xml file. After that I imported the version 7 profile by doing an "add profile" in Version 10. It said it accepted the new "added profile". Now I have to take the version 10 machine back to the airport and try it for sure tomorrow.
I would not want to do this very often and it is not really practical on the road because it requires two machines or at least two OSs. I need to figure out a simpler way using only the one machine.
If this works tomorrow I will go to the University and try it on their network.

This definitely a reason for me NOT to take advantage of their "free upgrade" to version 10.

When traveling, that is not an option. This method works. Today I connected to four different networks today running WPA(1) TKIP even though Microsoft has chosen to remove it from the GUI setup screen. The line mode setup (netsh - network Shell) works just fine but is much more involved.
I do not have the option of changing everybody's access points out there. As an example the local university has hundreds of them. I can and will change the airport's APs because I control them, In doing so I will also shut down some tenants that do not have WPA2 capable bridges and devices. Right now I'm on a personal router / AP in a hangar that I do not control and this AP runs TKIP.
What I would like to find is someone that can modify the GUI back to what it was. I do not know how to do this.

I am confused but I am far from an expert in this area. What is missing is simply one option out of three on a drop down menu. The system still configures correctly using the command line mode (netsh).
I do not see where the registry would be involved, but as I said this is way out of my league.
