Bob,
I agree with Bob but would also use a Dremel tool to carefully cut into the sides of the nut and split it.
You REALLY don't want to rip the rivet nuts loose as it will be a real PITA to replace them!

The 78's had studs coming from the inside out so you don't want to grind them off. If you can just grind the very end off that may
help. I think that's what you are proposing.
