So far, since I've owned the GMC the toads have been a Diesel Jetta (which was given me), a ratrod Ranger pickup (which I swapped a bady deteriorated Palm Beach for straight up) and the Mousemobile Kia Soul, which I had to purchase. I'nm redoing a '65 Dart 270 wagon, which I may tow a bit, if I want to disconnect the driveshaft. I'm leaning towards a Trabent 500 though - two stroke simply and very lightweight. Anybody know where one's for sale at value price as opposed to "Fully Restored Classic" price? It would be, like Dunahugh's Stingers, Different.

Have you ever "experienced" one? It's not what you think.

A VW Rabbit with a carbureted engine would be a better choice.

I'm familiar with them - I seldom venture more than four or five miles in the toad - which s about the max for a Trabbi. Friend who emigrated from E Germany in the late 90s says "There aren't many, we set most of them afire when the wall came down". I like ringdings. Can't find a Saab or a DKW... and I don't think the Whatchamacallit with the front door (was a four stroke anyway) would tow very well.

That Trabbie 2 stroke is a crime against nature. Just build a go-cart with a lawnmower engine and call it a day...

It's not actually. It's steel with door panels made of something similar to Bakelite I believe. The cardboard thing is a myth. The real problem is the engine. It's a crime against nature. Common joke, although not so funny in today's world, in Eastern Europe was Trabbis were used to kill off kids with asthma. Just let them stand close when one came past.

From what I'm told, the early bodies were made of a pressed cellulose impregnated with resin, which would of course burn like a shingle factory. Newer ones were fopur stroke and of more mainstream construction. They spew smoke like my Diesel Jettas.
