In August of this year there was a fan clutch discussion. Emery, you wrote about your experiences with Hayden and a suggestion by a GM engineer to try an AC Delco 15-40108 (the new number). You installed one and have had years of good service from it. I'm running a Hayden. I had some trouble this summer with it and want to replace it this winter but can't find a Delco 15-40108 for reasonable money. $300 or so from the local Chevy dealer isn't reasonable.
Can anyone suggest a less costly source? Rock Auto, Amazon, Advance Auto and AutoZone don't have it. Has someone had good experience with another brand or model?
Appreciate suggestions,

I left a messsge for my friend who is an ACD dealer. If he can buy them right, he can sell them to us right. That and other ACD parts for the TZE would be a nice way to expand his GM vehicle line coverage. .

Don't waste your time and money, Tom. I bought one of those from that ebay
supplier that Mark linked to and it lasted about a month. Locked up 90% of
the time for no apparent reason. Bought a Autozone Torqflo 922747 for less
than half the price of the Delco ($49) and it's worked much better for much
longer (so far). But then I went in and added an air dam and baffles beside
the rad, too, so that might have had something to do with it.

It's a genuine crap shoot to get a good one. Emery got lucky. I hope I
have too.
Good luck, Tom. You're gonna need it.

I have bought several AC fan clutches for GMC people from AC direct Online. None of those people have ever had a problem with them. Mine is now 9 or 10 years old.

Appreciate the suggestions. My fan clutch stays mostly locked up, Billy. I like the $49 price of the Autozone unit. Will wait to see what John's friend can offer for the Delco. But, I'm not sure what to buy at this point. I think this is my third fan clutch but can't remember what the other two were. Crap shoot is right. Summitt's $134 price sure beats $300 from the local Chevy dealer. I've had good and bad experience with Autozone parts. However, they are local and do stand behind their warranties. Has anyone else had experience with the AutoZone Torqflo 922747 fan clutch?
Thanks,

[quote title=Tom Whitton wrote on Sat, 19 December 2015 16:09]........... Has anyone else had experience with the AutoZone Torqflo 922747 fan clutch?
I've had a few Autozone Torqflo 2747 fan clutches on my GMC over the past 8-or-so years. They've lasted from about 9 months to 2 1/2 years. A couple of them seemed to be at full roar too much of the time but that was easily solved by "tweaking" the thermal spring on the front of the clutch. I've had them fail in different ways, one died by suddenly refusing to engage, on another the bearing got rumbly and had play in it (still was working fine though), another started leaking. As long as Autozone continues to give me warranty replacements I will keep using them.
A couple of months ago I got my current Autozone 2747 and it is NOT a Torqflo. I don't know who made it, there is no ID on it anywhere, and it looks a bit different than the previous Torqflo clutches. It seems to work pretty good although it sometimes goes to full-roar more than I like. If I get bored some day I might tweak the spring a bit but for now I'm going to leave it alone.

Take the part number to NAPA, Advance Auto, Autozone,
O'Reilly's, etc. and try a cross reference.

Once again what ever you do, DO NOT BUY A HAYDEN FAN CLUTCH. As I have had one take out my aluminum radiator and fan causing thousands of dollars of towing/parts/labour etc. Purchased at orielys and there customer service being non existant I would buy an Ac delco at twice the price. In the infamous word of Archie Pinto who is the resident engineer at Hayden, it was not our part that failed but if you do not like it get a laywer and sue us!!!!! Being as I now have over 10K on the same equipment other than the hayden fan clutch I think that highly unlikely

Glenn,
Thanks for sharing your bad experience. Archie, the Hayden engineer, has cost his company more in lost business than he could imagine. I will not be buying another Hayden under any circumstance. My Hayden fan clutch isn't working right but, fortunately, it hasn't damaged anything. I intend to replace it while I have the coach up on ramps in the garage to drop the gas tanks when I get over bronchitis.
Thanks again,

Good move on your part. The other question is how can we spread the word ? I have about seven pages of email conversations pertaing to this failure as he was looking to blame it on anything but their part. In the end he could find nothing. Presently in Mesa and still rolling on everthing but a Hayden fan clutch.
