My understanding is the FiTech ECU spark control requires a simple two wire locked out distributor rather than a locked out HEI distributor. If you are using the distributor for spark control the stock GMC MH HEI works just fine and is what two of the techs I spoke with said they would if it was theirs. Not because their ECU spark control doesn’t work well, but because the HEI works just fine for our application according to them.
Others know a lot more about spark control than I do, but my understanding is a knock sensor allows for more aggressive advance without the risk of pre-ignition (as long as it is working properly) and that more aggressive advance can lead to increased performance under some conditions.

Is it true that FiTech won't work with the later (late '76 and later) ignitions?

A bit OT
With all this discussion on knock sending ignition systems and its advantages, I'm wondering if anyone has done any fuel economy comparisions between regular grade and super grade gasolines on a coach running a KS ignition system?
Higher octane should permit more timing, which in turn should deliver a bit more economy. Any chance the improved economy might come close to offsetting the additional fuel cost?
I guess this might be best placed as a new topic.
