Hi Rob,

Yes, an adapter plate is needed since the four square pattern throttle valves do not line up with the two small and two large holes in the top of our spread bore intake manifold. The mounting tab holes do line up so it will bolt on without an adapter, but the throttle valves would not open properly. I happened to use one from NAPA because it was thinner than the one from Holley.

Jerry,

Excellent report, THANKS!

One question, is an adapter required to fit the FiTech injection system on the Q-Jet manifold?

Jerry,

Quick followup on that: Recognizing the difficulty of doing so with the
manifold in place, does it appear feasible to re-machine the OEM manifold
to clear the interference with the butterflies?

According to the FiTech FAQs, the spark control won't work with an HEI distributor. I sent them a note asking if they have future plans to do so - there are a LOT of HEIs out there, and the needed information is available via the plugs to the module. I'd want a knock sensor and timing control to make the conversion worthwhile and it doesn't seem terribly hard to obtain them. Otherwise, the old Holley ProJection system I have in a box someplace will do about as well. Time will tell.

I also had a Holley Projection system in a box that I had used from 1993 until I bought the Howell system.

I decided to put it in EBay last year and was surprised to get$400 for it.

Jerry,

Should have added this to my original question:

If an adapter is required does it raise the air cleaner to a point that it interferes with the engine cover or is the FiTech
throttle body "thinner" than the Q-Jet?
