Go to Camping World and check out their collection. Higher than $50 - are they out of their mind?

Tom,

I understand where you're coming from; however, there are some campsites that are worth over $50 such as:

French Quarter RV Resort - You can walk to Bourbon Street

I have stayed at both — expensive but really worth it for location.
One you missed is Boyd’s in Key West. Right across the street from the docks and restaurants.
In season for full hookups $105 per night, water front $130 per night.
Off season $90 & $110.

We stayed there a few years back and it was only about $75 per night at that time during “season”.

Hey, Rob! Have you forgotten that your computer breaks long URLs into unusable fragments?

Try putting parentheses around the link. Often, that will ameliorate the problem.
If not, convert to tinyurl.

I tried to reconstruct the URLs but failed.

Mac,

Normally I post the Tiny URL and the Full URL but I've got a lot on my plate today, here's a link to the GMCES website that lists
these and other GMCer approved campsites:

States AL - IL

http://www.gmceast.com/travel/travel/campgrounds_al.html

States LA - WI

http://www.gmceast.com/travel/travel/campgrounds_la.html

Paul,

First, I have to ask as to how they expect to use the trailers.
Case A - They will plan an excursion carefully and maybe even make reservations?
Case B - They will come home from work on Friday, hook up the rig, bolt and hope to find something.

Question for both cases, do they carry somewhat reliable internet with them. (Not counting on cribbing Wifi from McD's) If they don't think about it.

Universal answer, gift them a AAA membership and tell them to go on line and order area camp books. These are produced by Woodalls but are free for members.
Another part of the same, buy them each copies of Camping With the Corps of Engineers (ISBN 978-0-937877-51-7).

Specific answer for case A only. Advise them to go line and look up http://www.rvparkreviews.com/ and work this for all it is worth. It is my considered opinion that this one is most complete and it is the only one I still write for regularly (as rarely as we use CGs anymore). There are others.

Specific answer for case B only. I expect they have a smart phone (it seems everybody else does), get them the paid versions of either RVParky or Allstays.

How they plan to use the TT will make a lot of difference what will do them the most good. I have a neighbor that asked why we were always gone at such strange times and never were sure when we would be back. He was surprised to find that though we had a plan, it was usually junk by the end of day 3. They hook up the trailer and go to the same park for a week. That is all they do. What can I say??

Matt

Another great deal is to get the individual State Campground guides. Most State campgrounds are a good value. We just got back from Weikva Springs in Florida. Beautiful location, excellent weather, and gas under $2 a gallon.
Both Alabama and Mississippi have very good guides also. Just drop a note to the State Tourism offices and you will be covered in information.

I just got out my 2014 Good Sam RV Travel Guide and Campground Directory.

$9.95 for Good Sam member; $25.95 otherwise.

Has driving directions from nearest town for ALL listings, private and public.

Good Sam campgrounds are rated for facilities, restrooms/showers, and visual appearance.

There are inexpensive phone apps that have listing of all campgrounds. Everything seems to be electronic now vs. 2" thick books.
