When I published this source for V-belts, of all descriptions, last year,
several people seemed to find it useful as a source for wide-enough GMC
belts. Here's this year's 15% off sale:

Don't need spare serpentine belts myself. :-)

I have also used vbelts4less.com with good results. The belts are made in India and they are high quality, and inexpensive. $20 minimum order. Their belts are true A belts (full width) rather than the narrow junk belt sold in parts stores.

They look like the same belts I get from Tractor Supply. Very good belts for the larger pulleys on the older vehicles. The A/C compressor on my GMC needed a wide belt to stop the slipping when the clutch engaged. I will be getting every belt I need from them or V belt supply. I have had it with the rubber bands that the auto parts stores sell. They stretch so much that the minimum size needed to install them maxxes out the adjustment when the belt is under enough tension to transmit power and the belts are then all the way down in the groove. They also seem to dry up and degrade way to soon.

Terry,

That's good to know. Does Tractor Supply use the standard numbering system for belts? We have a Tractor Supply here. I've never paid any attention to their belts. I mainly buy all sizes or nuts and bolts that they sell by the pound.

G'day,

I was looking for some brake lines in the Spring 2014 issue of the GMC Motorhomes International Parts Interchange Index I have here
in Sydney when I ran across something I hadn't really noticed or had noticed but didn't register. It appears that Billy Massey
included a VERY good dissertation on Fan Belts in this issue. It is two pages long and is between pages 11 and 12.

He also inserted dissertations on spark plugs between pages 13 and 14 and Front and Rear Wheel Bearing Seals between pages 19 and
20.

Rob M.

Tom,
Tractor Supply sells the belts based on the actual size and length of the belt. Our store has the belt gauge hanging by the belts, and using that with the A/C belt that was too small (narrow) [and ending up being too long once it was on the pulleys] allowed me to select 2 belts that were possibilities. Brought them home and tried them, keeping them clean, and found one of my selections to be just right, and then took the other one back and got a duplicate of the one that fit to keep as a spare. Really, when changing belt gauge (width) from whatever is on there already, it is a trial and error process. The belt gauge in the store and some intelligent thinking reduced the error part down to 1 belt that did not fit (too short) and the next size up (in inches) that fit just right and did not have to be stretched so tight as to cause the back of the belt to be concave. It is indeed a lawn mower drive belt, but it is tough, good for any RPM the the 455 will turn, and does not slip when the A/C clutch engages, like the "proper" belt from the NAPA store did. You will not be able to look it up at the store, it is strictly a do it yourself operation...but it works very well!

Actually, the pages were updated with input from the gmcnet last year and
in the 2015 version of the parts interchange the information appear on

I use the exact same belt for my AC.
None of the crappy belts from any of the auto parts stores lasted longer than a couple hundred miles. Put the lawnmower drive belt on and it's working like a champ. Much Much stronger.

The spark plug list is by John Wright.

A handy fan belts page is at:
