I am quietly progressing in my search for a GMC. I found a local Eleganza
that has some appealing features but the interior poses a problem. The
original bunk beds have been replaced by a non-converting couch. The
dinette behind the passenger seat (i.e. two benches with a table between)
has also been removed to create more space. I need to sleep five
(including three kids) so the original fold-up bunk bed arrangement is
essential. None of the original parts are with the coach. My question
is: how much hassle/effort would it be to restore the original layout? Is
there a market for the old bunk beds and dinette? Is this a realistic
project or should I move on?

Depending on where you live, you can contact Jim Bounds of Coop MTS or us
and we can supply the bunk and show you what to do.
Even if you do not purchase them from us, I will gladly assist you as to
what to do.

Agree with A. Find one with the correct layout for you. You will spend way
less time and WAY less money by obtaining the correct layout. Once you
start opening the can it can be astounding the amount of worms you will
find.

I believe you are in the SF Bay Area -- so I suggest you contact JimK in Fremont and visit his shop.
He may know the coach you are looking at and may also have coaches at his place for sale.

I started with barrel chairs and a fold down table, I thought I'd like it.
I didn't.
So I found an original Flex steel dinette and original table.
The dinette was in terrible shape, I got it upholstered cheap ( and it looks it ) so I could decide if I liked the dinette, I do.
It's taken me a couple of years to do the conversion. The dinette and table are hard to find.
Figure $2000 to upholster the dinette, maybe the same for the bunks, if you want it to be nice.
So I recommend buying one with the layout you want, it's way easier and lots faster.

Keith,
Or build that dinette bench and table out of plywood like Avions.

Keith,
Agreed re the work.
As far as the cost to upholster it the Avion uses four cushions for the dinette, two for the seat and two for backrest. They are 40"
long, 18" wide & 4" thick. I'll bet you could get them upholstered for $400 or less.
