Always wondered why coolant gauge showd 90 celcius while my thetmostat is a 82 celcius (180 F). Now that i drove without a working alternator and a voltage of just above 12 V. It showed 82 C. Guess it is a 12 volt sender/gauge that shows to much with 14 V

Appie,

You should have replaced everything on Olga by now. The wheel bearings doing all right? Which new alternator are you using?

Guys,

This is why I have a big list "Chaumière Needs". This list has six (6) headings and they each have a purpose.
* The top heading is "Needed Now" Non-maintenance items that will make the coach more usable and enjoyable. The most of these recent of these was to diagnose and correct the problem with the ignition lock.
* The next heading I have is "Winter Jobs". Here is where I list work that will require that the coach be out of service for more than a few days, so I reserve it for when nature and road salt force the issue. This heading is empty for the first time in 9 years.
* Then there is "Waiting". These are jobs that require nothing special, but at just waiting for when I feel like doing them. New wires for the rear speakers (it is a 73) have been here a long time.
* The heading "Abandon" is where I put things that I once thought I would like to do but have lost importance or the ROI now seems stupid. One of these was to pull a full set of trailer wires.
* "Deferred" is a heading that I keep just so I remember it if the need or opportunity should present itself. The remaining of there was 12V power in the galley. We thought at first that it would be nice, but that is as far as the thought has gone.
* The last and most rewarding list is "Done". This lists both non-maintenance and some non-periodic maintenance like battery replacement all the way back to the day that "Chaumière" came to live with us. This list is good for two very important reasons. First is as a reminder when you did some specific job and second is that it is very rewarding to look back these nine years at all that I have done to keep her reliable and enjoyable.

That list is two columns wide and is now breaking into a third page.

Nope Gene,
I didn't. I took apart the column and found the the piece of the diecast that is supposed to make a slot for the cylinder's tab to lock into had bent up. This allowed the tab to go past the slot. Lots of things went wrong. So, I turned a circular shim to go in the bottom of the cylinder's hole and that fixed everything. Now Acc is easy and starting is even easier.

Of course the tough part of the "done" list are the items which need "re-doing" because for me, 13 summers have elapsed since I bought my coach and some of the previous upgrades/re-dos have worn out.

The nice thing about the done list, is that you can look at it and think, "Gee, that lasted/didn't last as long as I hoped, but I remember what I wanted to do differently."

Then there is the process of doing it a second time (having owner ours for
since '96) or a third and while pouring the 'Blessings' on the previous
owners, the realization slowly creeps in to my head that the clown who
cobbled it up this way was none other than myself !
