My coach had 2 a/c units and I have removed one. The coach came to me with 50 amp service and on removing the 110v panel I see that the coach was wired with 4 wire cable (50 amp shore power cord into 110v panel and a 50 amp female receptiicle in the cord storage box. It also has 4 wire cable coming from the Generac generator to the female plug. Was this a normal installation? I'm assuming it was supplying 220v to the ac panel. I am converting to a 30 amp service and and was wondering if any of the wiring wizards have some advise for me. HELP !

What you have there sounds like a standard GM coach. They are 240 volt / 50 amp but nothing in the coach 240 volts. So what you have there is two 120 volt circuits in the breaker box. I can not tell you about your Generac and whether it is 240 or 120 volt.
The Onan used in most GM coaches was 120 volt only and plugged into both sides of the 240 volt socket at the same time. That allowed the Onan to run at 120 or the shore power to run at 240 simply by plugging into the socket.
If you want 30 amp 120 volt service to plug into the GMC, the simple and cheap thing to do is simply but a 30 amp 120 volt to 50 amp 240 volt adapter which is available at many, many places including Walmart for under $20.00.

Thanks very much Ken, I'm glad to hear that my coach is standard. The Generac manual says its 110v and the adapter plug solution makes it very simple.

The coach is wired for 2 individual 120v ac circuit (2, 40a main breakers) with a common neutral and ground. 240v ac between L1 and L2 can be only if the
shore box has 2 separate phased power legs.
The APU (aux power unit-Onan) output is one leg of 120v ac 50a, and at the receptacle it's bridged to feed both circuit (L1 & L2). The amount of amps that each
circuit gets from the APU depends on the circuit load, but up to the 40a breaker (50a is total from APU).
If the Generac has 240v ac output, it may still be 2 120v legs (power (L1) to ground).
30a to 50a adapter is the best way to go.

This was a normal installation. 120/240V power is not something to mess with if you don't know anything about it. If you are changing something, get someone that knows what he is doing. If not, just get the 30A-to-50A adapter.

Why not leave it 14-50 and just get the TT-30 adaptor. You can even buy a TT-30 extension cord if you don't want to wrestle with the 4 wire cord. To be grammatically correct the OEM system was 120/240V but all circuits were referenced to Neutral not hot to hot.

Assuming the coach has original wiring, the Onan genset put out ONLY 120V AC. The same voltage was fed to each of the "hot" pins of the 4-pin AC female socket in the coach cable compartment. The "240V" plug on the end of the cable that plugs into that socket is wired the same way. There is NO 240V AC present in an original coach setup. Each of the two "hot" leads goes to a dedicated breaker that feeds approximately half the coach.
IIRC, one side feeds the water heater and one A/C unit and the other side feeds the second A/C unit and maybe the battery charger.
As markbb1 stated, if you don't know what you are doing, pay somebody who does know what he/she is doing to set your coach up correctly!

In the world of Avion wiring, the second leg feeds only the rear A/C. Battery charger is on the first leg.
