The cockpit seats were replaced by some PO, no idea what they are from.
My wife hates them, they really are uncomfortable, a 4 hour driving stint is way too long.
The drivers side base and seat is offset from the center of the steering wheel by nearly 2",
with the wheel is towards the center of the coach.
I'm always on the edge of my seat while driving, adding to the discomfort.
When I look at what it would take to center the drivers seat to the steering wheel
two problems appear,
1) the base flange would overlap the hatch,
2) any seat armrest would foul the hatch opening.
We'd really like a swivel bases, at least for the drivers side, and I do have a
pair of 10" swivel bases. My copilot is somewhat vertically challenged and
aftermarket seats seem too tall to be comfortable on the tall swivel bases.
Others seem to not have these problems and I cannot believe that GM really
designed this offset in the drivers seat. Yet I don't see any way to move
the steering column.
Suggestions on how to solve my seating problem?

Suggestions on how to solve my seating problem? Many people have installed Honda Odyssey second row seats from places that retrofit vans for wheelchairs. Later models only have armrests on one side. Search the photo site for "Odyssey" and look at some installations. Center the driver's side on the steering wheel using square tubing or unistrut.

It would be interesting to see the seats in a photo. Swivel Bases are around, just have to find them. I installed a seat of second seats from a Mazda Van, Honda's were hard to find in good condition. Much better than the OEM sets.

Sir, it sound like you might have the same issue I had. Our 76 Crestmont had the origional seat bases which slide back and up. I hated them. I replaced with a set of steelflex and bases out of a conversion van but the seats hit the wall when centered on the steering wheel so I had to offset them. I hated that also. I found the OEM bases out of a 77-78 are offset swivels. They allow the use of the Honda or about any captain chairs to swivel while being centered on the steering wheel. The nice part is by using the channel iron to mount seats to the basis you can put them under the base plate and by adding spacers you can lower the seat bout 2". In the pic you can see where to put the spacers which I have not got round to it yet.

For the "Correct" years of Honda Van Seats, the Chrysler Corporation Van Seats are functionally the same. Chrysler was making the Honda Van for several model years runs. Just be sure that you grab seats with two arm rests.

The seats I recently installed were the middle seats from a 2003 Toyota Sienna.
I previously had after market FlexSteel seats (that sucked big-time) mounted on aftermarket swivel pedestals. I used the pedestals and made a steel adapter plate.
We just finished 1000 mile (1600 km) trip and they passed with flying colours!

One of my main requirements was that they have double armrests. I think I'd really miss the missing armrest!
The Sienna seats also had side cup-holders and they fold down flat. Both bonuses for us!
My seats are fully manual - one (I think the RHS seat?) had an automatic, cable operated slide operation that I disabled. I was concerned that the slide range may not have been enough (being middle seats) - but they turned out to be fine. I did have an aftermarket slide that could be added - but it made them too high (IMO) - so I'm relying on the Toyota slide only.

We are working on a shoulder harness kit to make our shoulder belts easier
to use on our coaches.
Rick Flanagan has one in his coach and he will be coordinating the project
for us.
Another winter project.

If the controls are on the seat, then it should only have 2 heavy leads to a connector for the original vehicle. That would be power and ground. A remote controlled/heated seat would have more wires and probably 2 connectors.
