Hello,

I believe this question has been asked before, but I could not narrow it down with a quick search. Later this week we will be getting a $10k 3-D printer here at work. It prints in proprietary ABS plastic and can make complex parts including moving bits. Are there any hard to find GMC parts that would be a good candidate for creating this way. I most likely would not be able to do a production run, but it might be interesting as a proof on concept. (who knows maybe I can talk my way into a larger run) The maximum build size is 5x5x5, but I'm thinking something much smaller. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Inches or feet? We need the plastic burd cage that supports the dash. It could be built in pieces and then assembled.

Inches, my while i am sure they exist for speciality operations I have never seen one that could do more than 2 feet or so.

I imagine I could make a 'repair sleeve' for the plastic ribs behind the dash.

I have 2 PERSONAL 3D printers, a Cel-Robox, print dimensions: 8.25"L x
5.9"W x 3.9"H
http://www.cel-robox.com/technical/#features

and a Robo 3D. print dimensions: 10"Lx9"wx8"h
http://robo3d.com/

Both can print in either PLA or ABS. NORMAL print resolution is 200
microns, although both are capable of 100 microns.

My limitation is a SEVERE lack of 3d design skills. I am learning, but it
is slow.

I AM willing to print parts for anyone at 2 x Materials cost (there is wear
and tear and maintenance to think of).

In case anyone was wondering the mechanical capabilities of 3D-printed ABS material.

http://www.nasa.gov/marshall/news/nasa-3-D-prints-first-full-scale-copper-rocket-engine-part.html . The part appears to be about 18” cube. It was test fired in July of 2015.

10 of the largest 3# printers are shown here https://all3dp.com/biggest-3d-printers-world . Most large 3D printers use lasers to melt the material. One was used to make a small car.

Isn't the mode selector disk in the heat/air conditioning control a motorhome-only bit of plastic?

Maybe also the plastic trim that goes around the bunk supports in the ceiling? Maybe also the plastic rocker switches by the entry door.

Would a custom governor gear fix the MPH error for the stock transmission/speedometer? Or is ABS not the right material for that?

Almost forgot - make a new housing that accommodates the modern-day rectifiers used for the Onan (so nobody has to twist and break the lugs)

I will start with the latch bunk cover, that is dead simple, and I could use replacements for my old ratty ones. What selector dish, is it in the dash or on the roof AC's? I should be able to make rocker switches, but why, do they break? I am not familiar with the modern rectifier or old latch switchers, but I don't see why I could not model them. The gear is much more of a challenge, but possible. I have no idea what kind of forces or temps those gears experience.

Dash AC. In the caption for this picture from the photo site, the disk is called a "wafer" (on the right, in its housing):

The GMC motorhome/transmode version has the holes in different places than the ones from other cars.

...I am not familiar with the modern rectifier...
OEM bridge rectifier on the right, a replacement in the middle, replacement with pins twisted on the right.
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/data/3444/444_p17103.jpg
Lots of folks end up breaking the pins off when twisting them. If there was a replacement socket with the right pin orientation for the right price, there might be a market. Here's the OEM socket with instructions for modifying it for the new bridge rectifier instead of modifying the bridge rectifier:

Not sure how big they are, but what about the speaker/dome light plastic covers in the cockpits above the driver and passenger seats?
