The burned Royale used 2 portable LP tanks. Thus the gas gauge didn't work. The donor Royale has a fixed tank that appears to be attached to a gauge on the wall by the frig. I'm not sure witch tank type to use. If the gauge is dependable. I'm thinking of using the fixed tank with the gauge.Bob Dunahugh 78 Royale Iowa

Bob, our remote gauge works like a champ, and that tank lasts (and lasts and lasts...). Check the condition of the valve and the fill port - both really could use replacing on our coach, but it's taken me a couple years to run the tank from full to half full, so it's gonna be a while! Wink Typically, the valve leaks when you're in the process of opening or closing it, but not once it's fully open or closed. The fill valve doesn't always re-seat properly after filling, but I just keep a pencil handy to give it a poke (freaks out the gas station attendants). Wink

my original palm beach has a fixed tank and the gauge on the wall.

it works very well, has always worked for me.

If you run a furnace at all for any reason for a long period(longer then just a weekend), I would stick with the larger fixed tank.

I would also stick with it, if it is less work to keep it.

Not Royale, but my remote gauge works. For heating, the larger tank is nice - less trips for resupply. The valves are either totally off or totally on, there is no in-between point. If you leave the valve cracked just a little, the propane tank will empty itself. I found that out the inconvenient way.
Looking forward to seeing your work in Dothan. Hope that Winter does not slow your progress too much.

Thanks Mark for that info. Good thought's for everyone to check out. I'm going to have to re position that tank by turning it 90 degrees so it's up next to the outside wall. Not keeping the dinette. In this way Linda can get her wheel chair to the front. Then find a way to also turn the fill neck so it's pointing to the outside wall. Sounds like a good idea to replace some hardware on the tank. And blast, then paint the tank. Been down that fire road. Not a nice road.

Thanks again Mark.Bob Dunahugh 78 Royale Iowa

Bob,

The LPG sender on the Coachmen tanks is a standard item that's readily
available 'most anywhere that sells LPG components. When I turned the big
tank longitudinal in the X-Birchaven, it was a simple matter to remove the
fill valve, install a 90* elbow, and reinstall the fill valve. At the
time, I had captain's chairs mounted inboard of the repositioned tank so
that they leaned back over the new enclosure. This, and the two following
photos, show that it hardly interfered with anything despite its size.

I've since replaced those seats with a sofa/bed, necessitating replacement
of the big tank with a 6 g. one -- we don't miss the big one, but neither
cook nor go cold places. :-)

Bob,

Have you considered getting an LPG tank out of a GMC and move it down the back?

We have the fixed gauge on the wall in our Royale too. Works great.

I pulled the tank out of our coach a few years ago and had it checked by our propane supplier for our home. Glad I did. He said when he removed the gauge on the side of the tank the gasket just fell apart. So He replaced the gasket, installed a new tank shut off valve an regulator on the tank too. Everything works great. I repainted the tank and it looks like new. One more thing off the To Do List.
