Got to thinking about towing on the way back from Rapid City. When I pull my open trailer with a car on the trailer. My GVW is about 17,000 lbs. I then get around 8.6 MPG. When I'm towing Linda's Chevy Uplander lift van on a dolly. My GVW is also around 17,000 lbs. On our last trip pulling the Uplander. I got 10.122 MPG. The only thing that seems to be. Is that the Uplander fills the air stream of the GMC better by it's length. So is a longer toad better then a short one? Bob Dunahugh78 Royale Convertible78 Royale Mouse House

My experience Bob is to use a MPG average. Every fill can be
different based on the levelness of the coach, etc. I've had my gas
mileage per trip range from 6.9 to 11.7. On my most recent trip
going to the campground fully loaded with full water tanks, etc., I
got 9.22 mpg and on the return trip with tanks empty, food gone, etc.,
I got 8.93. There are many variables like terrain, driving habits
and speeds.

Bob,
Since the weight is the same the improvement in mileage is due to a reduce coefficient of drag. It could be the length of the "towd"
or it could be the fontal area of the towd and the amount of drag it creates. Perhaps Linda's Chevy Uplander presents a better
"face" to the turbulence off the back of the GMC?

Hi Bob
Post a lot of pictures of the renovation, I'm sure many of us would
love to see the process and progress.
Thanks

Plus I never use data that's out of the Midwest plains states. So I think I have some good data. It just appears that the shape of the Chevy Uplander really has a vary good profile for behind the GMC. My 78 Royale is totally stock down to the Carb on the 403, except for Jim K's 3:70 final drive.Bob Dunahugh78 Royale Convertible78 Royale Mouse House
