Hello all,
I am replacing my factory roof vent with a Maxxair vent. I removed the trim
around the interior of the old vent and see no method of retention. Is the
old vent secured solely from the top side? With screws into the aluminum
skin?
The reason that I ask is that I can't climb on the roof now. I am having
back surgery on the 30th. It's too painful to be climbing right now, and I
probably won't be able to get up there for a couple of months after the
surgery. I want to replace the vent before the rain begins, and my
neighbor's 17 year old has offered to help me. I'm trying to get a feel for
the difficulty in this project before I commit to accepting his help.

Guy,
The screws are all on top on both vents. The OEM radius corner have to be cut square.
The Maxxiair has a base screwed to roof and vent screwed to base. The inside piece needs to be cut for roof thickness.

Guy,
You have not advised what model of MaxxAir Vent you wish to install so I did a Google search and found the installation instructions
for two different types of units:

I would suggest you review them with the 17 year old and see what you think.

That's just the answer I was looking for. Thank you for that and your offer to help! I appreciate it. I'll let you know if I need to take you up on that. After my surgery and I'm back to normal, I would be happy to head north to help on any of your GMC projects as well.

Rob,
I have a Maxxair 5100 to install. But since it's in front of me, I have a
handle on what's required to install it. What I can't do is get eyes-on the
roof side of the original vent to see what's required to remove it. Adrien
answered my question about that, so I think I have a better idea of what
this little project requires.

What Adrien said. Bring a screw gun. If yours was installed like mine, it will take an hour just to remove the screws by hand...
