Thinking of the previous post on the 73 GMC for auction.
It has many valuable, no longer available parts. We need to start a recommended list of things to grab from a coach that is going to become beer cans.
Examples: Spindles, Hubs, Knuckles, Axles, rear brake drums, the curved glass over the toll windows, rear window glass, generator and propane doors, lower steering column, U-Joint inside the engine compartment on steering column, carburetor, intake manifold, exhaust manifold (passenger side - 455), bumpers, radiator.
I am sure that there are more items that cannot be easily sourced. Please add to the list. Perhaps we can capture a "recommended" removal item list. Derelict coaches are showing up. No sense in letting good needed parts go to the junk yard. It would help to have extended guide lists for that occasion we get to disassemble a coach.

All the windows, really. The big ones are $2700 from Applied, and looking
at them, I think I'd prefer stock. I could be wrong, and I hope I don't
have to find out.

salvaging is one thing. to find someone who can inventory and store the parts is a whole other problem.
a hub that has been salvaged from a coach, then stored improper, a few years later is rusted out, does no one any good.
I would love to store parts coached, but no time, or room.

Everyone lately wants to create a parts coach out of almost every older coach that comes up. It looks like a Glacier, but I could be wrong. It is a great starter coach for someone to redo and return to the road. The body appears to be undamaged and the interior can be upgraded and replace to suit the new owner preference. Yes, it will need care, but it is basically a very good starter coach. If the price is right it can be good value.

I'm thinking of an "abandoned" coach on a piece of property that an individual who purchased the property needs to get rid of. It was last registered in 1984. Looking at it's condition and being inside the coach, it would be financially irresponsible to attempt to restore to running condition. This coach would be a coffin for your assets.
However, it would be a good parts source, especially since the "owner" ( no legal title, other than abandoned on his property), must pay to have it moved to wrecking yard. Storing the bulk of the parts is another story. I think even a small storage shed would be expensive over the long haul. I have no where to store anything of the magnitude of parts that could be removed.
Still need to create a recovery parts list.

Is there sufficient market for parts no longer available new to make it worthwhile to pickle and store them? I could build a 20x30 unheated out back and line it with shelves. A bucket of cosmoline <tm> and coat everything and throw it on a shelf. Last five forevers. Problem as I see it is, getting the parts off the donor coach. It needs to go to the salvage yard once they're removed.... and once they're removed it won't roll. I could get a body on my trailer, if I knew a salvage yard that would take it. Probably best choice is get a burn permit and burn the shell. When you get a pallet of transmissions, send them to Manny as cores. Pallet of engines, send to a rebuilder as cores. Are the cores worth the shipping? Frady has put most of his GMC stuff on ebay lately. Get a pallet of hubs and knuckles and send them to Dave L for rework.

After looking at some numbers, I'm convinced this is the route to a small fortune. All you have to do is amass a large fortune and start chasing rare parts. You'll have a small fortune shortly.

Get yourself a used container. They are cheap and will store things almost for ever. When you are done with it sell it off for what you paid for it. I have one that I use as a garage for my John Deere plus other stuff. Ken H. has one also. They are weather tight and they will out live you. Mine has doors on both ends.
