Hi Everyone
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a problem I'm
having with my Electro-Level II system. It was working perfect, then
one day I started the coach and flipped the center switch to travel.
The passenger side went through the normal Pump Start, then a short
air exhaust and then pump up to correct ride height.
The drivers side did a Pump Start, then exhausted all air until the
pressure was zero and nothing else.
In HOLD, both sides go up and down fine.
Yesterday I went through the entire wiring system from the switches
back to my ViAir pumps, relays, solenoid valves checking all
connections and crimps, all was fine.
I replaced the drivers side height sensor 3 times with spares that I
have and the exact same thing happened all 3 times. Pump start,
pause, then exhaust to rock bottom. Any idea what's going on? This
happened once before and a new sensor solved it until now.
I have the solenoids, sensors and pump relays powered by the original
brown power wire. I have a large gage wire going directly to the
relays for the pumps from the battery.
Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

The exhaust solenoid has one side always tied to +12 volts and the other side gets grounded to energize the solenoid. The grounding comes from one of two places depending on the mode selected. Look at the schematic. The left side control switch for the Raise/Lower function has a terminal on the lower left side labeled Lower. Follow the lead coming off that terminal and you will see that it splits and goes to the exhaust solenoid and to the Left Wheel Sensor. That line needs to be grounded to energize the exhaust solenoid. If the switch is in the Raise or Off mode, then the Lower terminal on that switch is not connected to anything. Therefore the only way for that line to be grounded is through the Left Wheel sensor. I know that you tried 3 different sensors and they all functioned the same way. At this point, I would try the known good sensor (right wheel) and see what happens. Assuming there are no shorts in the system, I can not see how the the exhaust solenoid can energize if the switch is in Raise or Off except through the Left Wheel Sensor.

John
I have owned my coach for 15 years and have rebuilt and modified the EII system. My electrical background helps in understanding how it functions. I know that you have spent some time on this as well.
Ray,
I have responded to your emails but have not heard from you. Perhaps I am being blocked. If you need more assistance, let me know.

It sounds like you do not have a stock system if you have Viar pumps. In the stock system, the exhaust or lowering happens with a solenoid in the head of the GM compressors. I suspect you have added external exhaust solenoids so you can lower the coach. It sounds like you have a stuck or leaking exhaust solenoid.
