Bob just called a short time ago just say the motorhome was gone. At first I thought he was teasing me but as you can see he wasn't. Both he and Lila are fine. They were at dinner when it caught on fire. Car looks ok we hope. Just new news, still speechless here but wanted to share with the community.

I was stunned when I saw Linda's facebook post. what a shame! Thank goodness she wasn't in the coach.

I'm pretty amazed at the photos. The fire was hot enough that the aluminum ribs/spars and skin softened and collapsed inward but the air bags and tires are still up.

Glad everyone was safe. It's always sad to see one of the coaches get destroyed. Plus all the time and labor that was put into it not to mention the financial part. Sad

Chuck,

BLOODY HELL! This is awful!

Bob put a tremendous number of hours into that coach to make it wheel chair accessible for Linda, what a shame!

Glad to hear they were not in it when it burned that could have turned into a REAL tragedy!

Knowing Bob I'm sure, he'll pick himself up, dust himself off, and start all over again!

What a terrible loss! And the new door for the wheel chair! All are safe... that is the important part.

All I can say from Amsterdam is OH CRAP. Really sorry. Let's hope that you
had replacement value insurance. Good news that no people or pets or fire
guys were hurt. STUFF can be replaced. But a lesson to be learned here.
This is now a tally of 6 coaches that I have seen burn to the lugnuts. That
is 6 too many. The one before Bob's was in a tow yard. It burned and took 4
tow trucks with it.

Has it ever been determined what the main causes for the fires were?

In the ones I personally have knowledge of, three were fuel system engine
compartment fires, 2 were engine electrical, 1 was in the refrigerator
compartment caused from combustibles improperly stored in the back of the
compartment. None had on board fire supression.

Huge bummer. A good reminder for all of us to check all our Fire Fight on board fire protection, and inspect hoses, flues, etc. Hopefully the cause can be determined so we have a better understanding of the issue and what to look for on our coaches.

I spoke with Bob earlier. He and I are only about half hour apart, he is the one who helped me evaluate the GMCs while I was hunting. He is on his way back home with friends that were also traveling along. His Corvair and trailer are ok. I'm assuming Delilah, his bichon, is with him as she is a constant companion. Fire started while coach was parked, not running and cold. I will let Bob share more details when he gets back home.

His big comment was to note how well the GMC original fire containment worked. As you can see from Linda's pictures, the tires, wheels, air bags etc were untouched. The drivetrain and chassi are just fine, just the coach body that burned.

Huge bummer, but from what I've gotten to know of Bob over the past year or so, he's a guy that loves to tinker and I don't suspect this will slow him down much.

That's awful. But fortunate nobody, person or dog, got hurt. And that the frame, suspension, and driveline are unhurt. Between the layout of the coach and the fire dept's folks, they ought to be able to figure what started it. The old breaker panel in mine would have eventually set it off, I expect.
