I have acquired a set of Alcoa wheels but have discovered that the mounting studs on the spare wheel bracket do not match the Alcoa. Any suggestions as to the best system to use?
Don’t know if the PO changed things or not.

Peter,

I'm totally confused by your problem. The Alcoa wheels have the same bolt pattern as the OEM steel wheels and the spare wheel mount
should be the same except it only has three studs instead of eight.

If the Alcoa's fit on the hubs then they should fit on the spare wheel mount unless as you noted below the PO changed things but
that doesn't make any sense either.

Peter, I don't follow what you are saying. Did the spare mount fit
your original steel wheel (if you had a spare)? If the other 6 Alcoas
fit your coach but not the spare mount, the mount pattern ain't right.
Short of fabricating a new mount bracket, I don't know what to tell you.

Gene,

Are you saying that you were the PO of Peter's spare wheel mount?
That it fit on three of your GMCs before you sold it to Peter?

I think Peter may be referring to the length of the tire carrier studs being too short to properly hold the Alcoa wheel using Alcoa lug nuts.

In the past I remember seeing a tire carrier that would work fine with the original stamped steel wheels and GM lug nuts but would not work with Alcoa wheels and lug nuts. If I remember correctly there was only enough stud to engage a thread or two of the Alcoa lug nut.

Since my memory was never that good and has gotten worse over the years I cannot remember exactly where I saw this, only that I remember it being a problem for someone at some point in the past 8-or-so years.

Bob,

Both Double Trouble and The Blue Streak have Alcoa's and you are correct the stud length is a bit short, however, both spares have
been on that mount for years without ever coming loose. The weight is carried by the studs there is very little force on the lug
nuts.

In Actual Fact, on more than a few occasions now, (most recently, coming home form the tire store) I have carried two steel wheels on the OE carrier.
Once you get the first hung on the stud, the second is no more difficult.
But, there won't be enough stud for the OE lug nuts, so I carry some coined wheel nuts and use them backwards.
