My PO had put a nice foam mattress ontop of dinette in the back to
convert that area to a permanent bed. Nice, but not perfect, as the
mattress ontop of the seat was very soft. Not good for the back.
I went ahead and got a slated base from IKEA for 75USD. Needed to cut a
bit off, but the result is perfect.
Shows the left part of the full bed. The outmost beam had to be cut, and
the cross beam relocated by about 3 inches. Works very nice, and took no
more than 15 minutes.

If you wander through an Ikea store with an open mind, there are many things that will work with the GMC. I used two of their towel racks, suspended under the rear overhead cabinets as either additional hanging storage for longer trips, or, towel drying racks.
Ikea is a good source of 12v strip LED lights, they are not sold as 12v assemblys, but they work very well.
If you are doing your own interior, the drawers and drawer fronts are usable.
You are only limited by your imagination.
I miss Ikea.

Thomas,

Oh, yes, limited only by CFO and imagination.
> [..]I miss Ikea.
I drove a total of 300mls to get the bed stuff. I am sure I could have
gotten it cheaper somewhere local. Question for is always: Where? - IKEA
had all I wanted, including a new mattress and other little things. And
building the thing on the outside of IKEA parking lot, was kinda fun
(but HOT). The mod this morning was just the icing, as everything is now
like I want it to be :)

Or you can go further and do a complete installation and you may be able to use the Ikea base.

We tried the foam over the rear davo seats and it was not comfy. Before settling on the final layout we even tried a couple of other layout including Bunkbeds in the back and that lasted one weekend, don’t ask! You have to do what you like best and maybe use part or all of other layouts that you may have seen.

John,
great pics.
One of the things that I am always afraid off is taking stuff out that
is working. As I do not have storage in the USA, I would have to
throw/give the back dinette away. I don't want that. That's why I chose
the simple route.
Yours is way better!

Pictures?
my only concern about a slat bed in the GMC is that since you have to in and out of bed in the same place every time the slats in that one area will get a lot more stress than the rest.....
