So I had a little issue a few weeks ago of what I believe was an overload of the electrical system. It was hot as hell and I had 2 fantastic fans running and one plugged in the cig lighter for the cockpit.
Came to a stop at a light and smoke came up through the glove box. I turned the ignition off grabbed the extinguisher and jumped outside. The wire from the alternator had been spliced and the old part burned up.
I was able to get home and replaced the burned wires. The solenoid and isolator re new but the left side of the solenoid is no longer completing a circuit. Dead. To start the coach I have to hook up the positive lead of the battery to the left side and boom it starts.
Any ideas?

Sounds like you have the house battery positive terminal hooked to the chassis battery and vice versa. Make sure one battery has its negative cable attached to the engine and its positive cable attached to the boost solenoid. From that side of the boost solenoid, there is a cable that attaches to the solenoid on the starter. The positive cable of the house battery connects to the other side of the boost solenoid and the negative side of the house battery connects to the frame.

Since there is a 6AWG braided strap between the frame and the engine, there is a path for a wrongly connected house battery to work like a chassis battery if it is attached to the chassis battery cable, but it puts a lot of current on that braided strap, which might only have a few fibers holding after 40 years.

The chassis battery side of the boost solenoid has 3 each 4AWG wires connected to it. The house battery side of the boost solenoid has one 4AWG wire and two 10AWG (smaller) wires on it.

I know just about enough to be dangerous probably. Is this something I can get fixed at a competent mechanic?
Currently it works fine from the other side, just not the way it was meant to work.
Thanks for all your help.

Yes. Take the wiring diagram and give it to the mechanic.
