Has anybody used Keensert's to repair center exhaust manifold bolt threads? they require a 1/2 13 tapped hole to thread into and looking at the head I'm not sure there is enough meat there to drill it out that much.

One side was already done with what looks like a Timesert and I'm not sure about putting another one back in where one has failed, and I don't have that size of kit. The Keensert uses standard tap sizes so it needs a bigger hole for the insert which fixes my problem of the failed insert but might be taking to much material.

What have you guys used?

Thanks

Brian,

The repair you propose to make to your manifold is needed because of the
narrow seat where the section is missing. Be sure to have the manifold
resurfaced after the welding because it will surely be warped. Might as
well do the other one too, but don't take much metal off of the left
(driver's side) manifold or you'll have trouble with the oil dipstick.

As for repairing the stripped center bolt, I personally would not even
bother. Almost everyone who's ever fooled with these engines will tell you
to tighten all the other bolts, then just snug those up. If they're
over-tightened, as yours have obviously been in the past, they'll cause the
manifolds to "rock" upward, creating leaks on the bottom of the flange. You
can expect the other, centerline, bolts to hold the manifold securely -- at
least until you install the headers that are probably in your future.

I was thinking of leaving it out, I'll do that until I do the exhaust next summer.
