Mike,
thanks. btw: Your documentation on how you did do the headliner is very
nice. Thanks for that.
hmm, if I do use a different layout, than what GMC used, I won't be able
to utilize the old headliner as a 1:1 blueprint. Seems only the last
part, that covers part of the front cap is too much. I'll have to
meditate on this...

I did the FRP Panels in the ceiling of my Royale this past winter. With the significant help of another Royale owner it went very smooth. My ceiling panel layout may be a bit different but as other have said. Start replacing at the rear of the coach and move forward. Put the headliner back in and then put your last panel in. I did use the old panels as a template for the FRP. I cut it with aviation snips, but later learned my band saw sliced it up with no issue. I wish I would have known, but it was also very cold in the garage. FRP gets brittle when cold and trying to cut it.
Anyway. When I reached the front I let that panel overlap where the old one was a few inches. I then used longer white Aluminum rivets to secure it to the head liner and trimmed that edge with edge cap. It turned out well.
I was provided this trim info from the other Royale Owner and still owe him one for hunting it down before I had to do the same.
Nuddo Trim V 47 Is a two piece "cap" and "retainer". color was WH 50 which was a dead on match for the Krylon Fusion I used on the headliner. The edge cap is V 1.
http://nudo.com/p_vinyl_trim.php?crumb=%3Ca+href%3D%27l_accessories.php%27%3EAccessories%3C%2Fa%3E
I had to order my trim from a siding shop and pay the freight as it comes in an 8 foot long box.
I installed the retainer first on the aluminum ribs and used a few pop rivets to hold it in place. Then position the panel. Then pop rivet a few more times to hold the panel up a bit more. NOTE the length of the panel is critical as when it bows up, it will hold pretty firmly in place all on its own. Like an arch. A few rivets, and then the Cap from the trim really lock it all in place. The test was this summer with the interior of the coach over 90 degrees and nothing is bowing out or drooping from expansion.
You may also look into some extra insulation. I used Rmax Rmat plus 3. putting the foil side out. Then taped it all with Aluminum tape. This took out all the high and low spots from the OEM insulation. I ground down the old spray foam with a hard paint removing wheel on my drill with the shop vac attached. This allowed me to take just the right amount of insulation off to make it uniform and hold the 1/2inch insulation panel. I think the coach is a lot quieter now, and the insulation has helped, keep heat in this winter and cool in this summer.
Hope this helps. It was not a bad project, but took some time, Measure 5 times and cut once thinking like a hair cut. You can always cut more off, but not put it back on.

Material that I used (Komatex) was produced in Europe and bigger than our 4 x 8 foot standard. An untold blessing. I believe the original, before trimming size, was 1.5 meters by 3 meters. Unfortunately, the shop I bought it from trimmed it to 4 x 8 without telling me. I did managed to keep the scrap, it has proved very valuable.
I ignored the original overhead material, except for the general idea, and actually measured from rib to rib, then cut pieces to fit.
I did error on cutting for the actual width from side to side, but I think I have a nice installation.
Being a foam product, it is waterproof, and provides noise and heat isolation.
Please feel free to examine it at the Spring 2016 International Rally, in Dothan, Al. (Plug)

I followed Arch suggestion using 3/16 ABS plastic with pebble finish.
Remove everything front to back and install in reverse. I have pics in the
pic site somewhere as does Arch. The first panel is larger (wider) than the
std 4x8 sheet of ABS so I made two separate panels using the original as a
guide and joined them at the seam just behind the front seats. The ABS just
snapped in place. I used all the original parts for reassembly. The only
challenging part was finding the correct rivets to hold one piece in place.
Someone on the net provided a link to the source.
That was several years ago, no problems since and the ABS is bulletproof!
