I have no idea about the time delay function. Perhaps all converter/battery chargers have that built in but no longer talk about it.

Yours is some brand of replacement for the GMC supplied buzz box given the 1980s date. From the additional photos it certainly looks like the black wire is coming from battery +, powers the internal distribution strip via a fuse. The red wire looks like it goes from the internal distribution strip via a fuse and up to the 12vdc house distribution strip. I would still verify those wires before using them in your new installation.

It should be an 8 gage or larger wire to carry the charging current to the house battery. An 8 gage wire will carry about 40 amps up to about 15 feet safely. The yellow (ground?) and red (to distribution strip?) look from the pics to be only about 12 gage which will only carry about 15 amps up to about 15 feet safely. I would suggest running those in 8 gage as well.

I wonder how important the relay switch is, that is put so prominently
on the label:

"This converter is equipped with an automatic relay, which changes from
DC battery power to DC converter power when connected to 120 Volt AC"

Will removing this functionality cause issues?
