We loaned our Royale to one of our sons, a very mechanically inclined former SCCA Pro Rally driver (when he was much younger). Even he managed to find a low post which perfectly ripped the step off and damaged the lower part of the door. Issue was not being used to the length, bulk and turning radius, and, most importantly, not being used to where to go and not go with the coach.
He turned off the US101 near Santa Rosa, CA, for the night and into a county park at a lake that showed up on his phone-gps map. That map didn’t show just how steep it was going into the very small parking spaces and he didn’t know enought to know how difficult it might be to get back out in the morning. Beautiful, remote and lonely spot with no cell phone service so once he hung up on the post and saw what happened he could not contact anyone for help. The next morining he did manage to crawl back up the steep dirt and gravel road to get out, but not without some adventure.
It is the experience we all take for granted about where we can and cannot put one of these things safely that is missing for many first time drivers. A bit of body work, a bit of paint and a step from one of our posters and all was well.

78 Royale with most everything done to modernize a GMC mechanically
77/94 Clasco bone stock and looks like it just left the Clasco facility
Both drive equally as well.

G'day,
I replaced the manual pull out step on Double Trouble with a nice shiny new Ragusa step and tore it off and DESTROYED it within a
week of installing it!
Manual pull out step re-installed.
