When driving in our Minivan to the Tidewater crabs rally last weekend my GPS took us down some routes that I would not have been comfortable driving down in a 8ft wide 26ft long RV........

I've heard there are units that might be smart enough to know where to avoid or at least smarter than my Tom Tom

Any recommendations? Experiences?

I really like the Rand McNally RM7720. It has an RV profile and some type-of-road selections. ...Not sure about incline grades, that would be nice. That said, it is notorious for locking up and Rand and other vendors only give a 1 yr warranty and treat them as throwaways concerning depreciated value. Since it was a $300+ unit, I am hesitant to replace it and will look for IOS or Android apps or programs instead.

I forgot to add that the 7720 has a video input jack so it doubles as a hardwired camera monitor. Works well and the user interface is convenient --just toggle the cam with the click of an icon. Personally, this feature will *almost* make me pony up the money to replace it if I can't fix it (seems to be a heat issue, I plan to modify the case backplate to give more ventilation).

I recently bought a Garmin RV760LM. Seems as if it will do a pretty good job. This is my fourth Garmin GPS.

I have the Garmin RV760LM also. Had it for 2 years and I really like it.
Keeps me off the alleys and roads that are not rated for RVs and trucks.
Speaking of trucks, I have an older Garmin 760 that will switch between
car and truck. Used before the RV760LM and currently have it in my pickup
truck. Thing that I learned about the RV760LM is after about 10 months it
will start to stutter and lock up. All this means is, it is time to plug
the GPS into an computer USB and do the latest down load off the internet.
Then it's fine for about another year.

my 2 cents for what it's worth. There is no best, just what is comfortable
and works for you.

I bought my RV760LM from GPSCITY.COM on sale for $290!

This is the third Garmin GPS I've bought from them. Great company and great prices. I'm on their mail list.
