Curious if anyone loans or would consider loaning out their GMC...
I have turned down several requests from friends and relatives to borrow mine.
It isnt so much a matter of trust as it is they generally lack the RV and mechanical experiance to the point where I feel comfortable doing so
Also, the fact that I dont have full coverage

I feel EXACTLY the same as you do. The only people I would even consider lending my GMC to are my two sons, the younger of which is almost a clone of me, but both understand the GMC pretty well.

Generally i don't agree with anything you say Chris, but in this case I
fully endorse your mindset.
It's not running into a car that will happen, its the breaking off of a
switch or putting wear on the transmission by not downshifting or...you get
my drift...and me yours!
No, don't lend it to anyone including your Mother...You've been having a
bit of a problem with (fill in blank here) and you wouldn't want it to fail
and ruin their vacation !

I would if I trusted them. I've always been different in this regard...I've always loaned out my motorcycles too when people thought I was crazy to let anyone touch my things. To me they are just tools. I don't have to worry on the insurance side so if anything bad happens...that's what insurance is for.
that all said, I can't fathom (not has it happened) that anyone but a CLOSE friend or family member would ask. I guess if a coworker did I would say no. My parents...siblings...best friends...yeah...I would...and likely will.
Oh...and unless it was a world case emergency, I wouldn't ask to borrow anyone's vehicle

I can think of a couple of folks to whom I would lend. They're family, or been around so dam' long they're 'family'. The ethos I grew up with they share - he who borrows returns in the same or better condition... the truck comes back full of gas. Blow a tire, it comes back with a new one. Stack it up, it is replaced. I offered to give the SOB to one of them to put on his 600 acres over home (Alabama), he's a pretty good shade tree mechanic. He crawled under, looked it over, cranked it, "No, thanks."

I wouldn't. There are some people who I would trust with the GMC, but I wouldn't trust my GMC not to ruin there intentions. It hardly breaks down, it's generally not hard to fix, but as Matt just showed, even the most diligent among us run into problems that can ruin a trip. If someone borrowed my GMC and their trip got ruined by a 40 year old machine, they probably wouldn't be as good natured about it as my family will be. For us it's part and parcel of owning an antique motorhome. Odds are whoever asked to borrow it really just wanted an rv, not an antique...

Heck, Mike, I thought I agreed with most of what you both wrote. I'm like Johnny, there are a few people who I would consider lending the motorhome to. They have the ethic of returning in better shape than before. But not until I thought all was working and reasonably robust. What scares me is that they will cut corners and scrape off the Zip Dee, which looks much the best investment I have. That and keep their foot in it until the exhaust valves burn.

I've been thinking about this as well.
During the time I am outside the country, my friend, where the GMC is
staying, is free to use it as he likes. He is probably way better in
getting things mechanically sound than I will ever be.
For others, I haven't yet decided. I will probably give it to them with
a long talk about what can fail, and would expect them to pay a maximum
amount of repairs out of the pocket, compared to whatever a regular RV
would cost. Plus of course, the regular maintenance for the amount of
driving they do, things like oil change at what not. But I don't know
yet, and will cross the bridge when I come to it.

After thinking about this a little more, the reasons I would not lend my GMC out to anybody but (maybe) my sons, are:
1. It is a much more complicated vehicle than most others on the road
a. it is front wheel drive
b. it has air suspension
c. It has it's own electrical, water, and sewer utilities
2. It is unique enough that it would be VERY hard to replace
3. It is 40 years old and therefore might possibly not be entirely reliable. I am willing to take the risk , I'm not sure I would want to expose others to that.
4. It is old and unique enough that not just any roadside repair shop can fix it
%. I have a LOT of time and money into it and would not want to put that at risk
I'm sure there are more

Would insurance cover an accident if it was loaned out? They probably wouldn't cover it if it was rented. Some won't cover a car if you are car pooling (according to the Allstate commercial)

My insurance covered the named insured (me) and licensed drivers who have my permission and do not reside in my household. However, I only carry liability coverage. I self-insure for loss of the coach.

I would never loan out mine except to family.,now with that being said, I consider my very best friends(only about 4) to be in the family category. My cars to me are a love affair. And even my family won't have that same connection that I have with my autos. I would worry at nights knowing my GMC was out without me to care for it..it's a sickness!!

A night's stay at a New York City hotel can get very pricey.
So an Airbnb user is offering tourists a cheaper alternative - a van.
Someone by the name of Jonathan is advertising a fleet of converted vehicles on the short-term rental app parked at scenic spots
