Hi again, Anthony,

I failed to notice your coach info when suggesting you put such in your sig line in my previous response. I also failed to respond to your Onan starter issue. One thing to check is the starter mount which has a tendency to break on these old Onans. That might contribute to your starter sticking on issue.

Hello all,

New owner here of a 1976 Eleganza II.

I have been scouring the different support sites gaining tidbits of information to help with different issues I come across.

However, I am stuck on 2 things where I cannot find an answer.

First one is the Onan Generator. I have been able to get it up and running fine and have adjusted it to run the 2 A/C units within the coach. Under no load, measuring inside the coach I have it set about 128 volts, but when both the A/C's kick in, they run, but it drops down to about 75 - 80 volts. Am I missing an adjustment that should be keeping up the RPM's to maintain the higher voltage.

Second problem I am having with the Onan Generator is it has now twice had the starter stick to on, and constantly cycle. Holding down the stop button did not work, it just keep cranking things over. To "save" it I had to quickly undo the power connector for the starter. After letting everything cool down I tried it again and it was fine. It remained fine for a few days, but it did it again today. Does anyone have any idea to what could be causing this? Bad rocker switch perhaps?

My only other problem is the Norcold fridge it has. It does not seem to be cooling down. AC is working, I hear the LP gas kick in and burn, but the fins do not seem to get cold. Would I feel them getting cold after a few minutes, or does it take quite a while? The other thing is that I get weirdish characters on the display which do not have a reference for them in the manual. Does this sound like a bad control board or something that needs replacing?

I appreciate all your help.

Anthony.

Jerry,

You beat me to it. I was just about to post that my starter would intermittently catch the flywheel and once or twice would hang on for much too long. It turned out to be the starter bracket. I bought the replacement from Jim K and upon installing it thought I’d made a bad decision - the old bracket looked just fine to me. Well, the starter engaged perfectly from that moment on.

Money well spent.
