I am waiting alongside a noisy highway near Benton AR for a truck that can pick up Chaumière and take her some place that can help me deal with a missing wheel. RR Tire, wheel, drum and hub are all AWOL.
Mary was on the phone with AAA while Erick and I searched for the missing part(s). They sent someone out to do a tire change. (Would you care to guess just how angry Mary was???)
That was yesterday afternoon. After we both talked to different people at great length, they promised to have a truck here 8AM this morning. They called this morning to say between 9 and 11. The operator called and we talked, all he could do was lift the front..... (Was Anybody Actually Listening?)
AAA has called to say that they are working on getting something. I told the guy that a rollback capable of 10K and 20' could do it. Maybe they don't have those here.
It looks like we will be here a few days, so Mary is going to rent a car and maybe we will go wheel hunting again.
There are three Assist List members in Arkansas, One doesn't answer the phone (sent e-mail too) that other said that they are too far away and don't know the area that I am stuck and the third is farther still and I haven't bothered.

The Kids???
Oh Yeah, 500$ to rent an Enterprise car to go home PLUS FUEL. The train has to go by way of Chicago and that leaves Little
Rock at 11PM.

The Arkansas State Police have been the most help.

Tom Pryor is planning to put together a repair kit, but he can't ship it until I find out where the coach might end up. I do have a spare wheel and tire.

I'll keep you informed as things progress.

At least glad that you're ok. Hang in there.

Did you try the business number for Trammell's Engine Services on the Black List? Looks like they're about an hour and a half away from you. (870) 348-5540

Not trying to be a smart @$$, although I am highly skilled at it, why don't you have all the stuff that went AWOL? Usually it ends up in more or less the same county. And you can re-use some of it.

It sounds like you are going to end up cobbling something together where you sit to get you someplace where you can do it better, and then go from there.

What's the condition of the spindle?

We had the same thing happen outside Atlanta. Took Good Sam 8 hours to locate a roll-back, in Atlanta!, and get it to us to take us 20 miles to Zeb Frady's. These towing companies don't want to release their roll-backs for this stuff, and I think they just tell whatever service provider we have that "all our rollbacks are tied up, sorry". It is the one reason I'm considering going quad bag. You might limp yourself somewhere. On the other hand, what are the odds it happens again?

Thanks,

I wish we had known about this when it happened.

If all else fails, I can take what Matt needs off my 73 CanyonLands and I can get it to you, and you can relay it to him.

It'll take me an hour or three to get it off (in this heat), I am not the fastest wrench in the world. Another three hours to get to Germantown. You will be lucky to get it rolling by dark.

That's why I asked about the condition of the spindle. If I gotta include that in the package, I don't know how hard it is going to be to get off after 40 years.

When mine did the same N of Atlanta, I found the wheel and hub in the median... fortunately the Eagle wasn't damaged. The spindle had sheared inside of the threads. Affordable Towing from CAlhoun had a rollback big enough to handle it and haul it to Frady's. One GMC unit later, back in binniss. Fortunately, I had the toad along, we drove it home and recovered the coach from Frady somewhat later.

Quick update

Talked with Matt
He will call Unique at the number I posted.
Unique has both hauling contacts and used GMC motorhome parts and can fabricate.
I am sure we can expect Matt to provide us feedback.

One more update --
Matt's phone service is spotty and he will not be online for a while.
He spoke with Unique and expects they will be to him within two hours. He felt very comfortable that they had the GMC experience and used parts to help.

Matt if the AWOL does not show up and you use your spare, I have a 16.5 steel with air filled tire here. You are welcome to it if you are swinging this way on the return.

FIRST:: Thanks to all. That is what makes this community so great.

We have rented a car and wheel hunting is in the plan for the day.

If you might travel through the middle of Arkansas, make this note.

Matt,

Sure good to hear Y'All are finally in good hands. You still haven't told
us what happened -- frozen wheel bearing & sheared spindle, as usual? Or
loose axle nut, departed wheel & bearings w/probably mangled spindle?
