Hello. My mom just turned 82 and is thinking about retiring(yes you did read that right!). She has expressed interest in RV traveling. There is a chance she will need wheelchair assistance in the next couple of years. I was thinking of buying a 23'GMC Birchaven equipped with a ramp or having one installed. Does anyone out here have any ideas where on the coach the best location would be to install a ramp or other device? She will not be driving the coach, just enjoying the adventure! Thanks for your ideas, experiences, or recommendations.

You should have looked at John Sharpe's at Waco a while back.

Have a look at Bob Dunahugh's coach. Easy to use, and looks professional all the way - and accommodates a standard width wheelchair.

I think it's Bob Dunahugh who did that to his coach.

I'll bet he chimes in here pretty soon !

Bob Dunahugh, has a wheel chair ramp for his wife. Very professionally done, on a 26 foot coach. He ran into some challenges, and I do not think it was a straight forward easy job. Sadly, there defintatly has to be some thought as to how to enter/exit and utilize the coach, and either a custom floor plan, or really measure and look at different floor plans.

Another thought, is there is sometimes transmodes out there, that might have an aftermarket door in the rear hatch. Jim Bounds might have the ability to replicate a rear hatch with a door. But you have the issue, on some models of making sure you can get the wheel chair to where you want to secure it or have the passenger transfer to a different chair somewhere in the coach.

Scott. I would be glad to help you. I widened the side door by 7 inches. And the 8 ft ramp is stored under the coach. I did the work 2 years ago. Added handrails this last Fall. I sent some photo's to Hemmings Classic Car magazine recently. The ramp is seen in one photo. I'll send you that. You can call me anytime. CDT 319-521-4891 cell Bob Dunahugh

Thanks guys for the replies. Maybe I should clarify. Maybe not a wheelchair, but a narrow electric scooter. I think that's what it's called. I would like a one push button setup ramp extension, if possible.

Will the scooter fit through a standard door?
