G'day,
I just turned Private Messaging OFF in the Forum. I did that because I was sent a question about the 272 brake shoes and to respond
I cut the last message I sent via email and pasted it into my reply to the private message. When I pasted it in all the carriage
returns for paragraphs got deleted and it was one long string of sentences. I then went back and added a second carriage return in
between the paragraphs and it did no good.
For those of you that use the Forum I have set it up so you can see my email address and will be more than happy to respond to any
emails I receive.
For those of you that use the email system you can see my email address in the header when the email arrives, you can copy and paste
it into the To.. field in emails.
Regards,
Rob M.

Rob,
In PMs you have to put a <p> to get a new line.
Actually messaging seems to accept all of the HTML controls. So, a <br> will get you a CR (carrige return) and a <p> (paragraph) will get you a CRLF (carrige return - line feed).
But yes, it is a PITA if one is not used to composing in HTML.

Thanks for the info.

The Pedantic Mechanic Rob,
Being on the mail list, you didn't see the solutions Matt and I proposed, because the gateway strips out that stuff. So the answers look like nonsense.
To start a new line, you need a less-than sign followed by "br" followed by a greater-than sign.
To start a new line, and skip a line, you need a less-than sign followed by "p" followed by a greater-than sign.
Matt's post summarizes it at

Mark,
I saw exactly what you describe below.
It's STILL a PITA to have to do that so my PM's are staying off.
Below is a message I cut and pasted into a response to Tom Phipps after the Forum PM system got through with it and AFAIC the last
sentence is my FINAL POSITION!
I am MORE than happy to respond to anyone about anything if it's an email directly to me, if they are not willing to send emails
directly to me I'll assume that whatever they want to ask or tell me is not important enough to them to acquiesce to my request and
THAT'S THAT!
I am sorry if this sounds arrogant by I've got a lot of irons in the fire and don't have time to mess around with a system that
takes up time.

Rob M.

Tom, Below you will find the last message I sent into the GMCnet re this subject. To check if you need 272 or 462 shoes check pages
21 - 27 of this presentation Al made: http://www.bdub.net/branscombe/Drum_Park_Brake_Improvements.pdf Regards, Rob Espen, I received
an email from Albert Branscombe and along with what you have explained and reading RC 74-C-04 "closely" - I GOT IT! DOUH! Below is
an email I sent to Albert and Kim Weeks and her response. -----Original Message----- From: Robert Mueller
[mailto:robmueller-AT-iinet-DOT-net-DOT-au] Sent: Tuesday, July 14, 2015 11:44 AM To: 'branscoa-AT-bmts-DOT-com' Cc: 'Kimberlea
Weeks' Subject: GMC Rear Brake Shoes Albert / Kim, Yes the GMCMI Parts Interchange Index (PII) does list the 272 family of brake
shoes and from what I've learned I believe that it should be revised as follows: Rear, Shoes (73-75 & early 76) Recall / Service
Bulletin 74-C-04 replaced both the left and right brake assemblies. The replacement assemblies used the 462 family of shoes. If you
have a coach in the age range specified you will need to determine if that service bulletin has been applied. Contact one of the GMC
Parts, Service, and Repair Facilities listed in this document for assistance. The part numbers listed in the PII could be listed
under the information above. Regards, Rob M. The Pedantic Mechanic PS I have attached a copy of 74-C-04 for your reference.

gmclist-AT-temp-DOT-gmcnet-DOT-org Subject: Re: [GMCnet] mechanical input reference rear brakes/ bearings needed I understand that
Rob, the issue is that the 272 band in any form was not used on the GMC after recall notice NUMBER: 74-C-07 that you can find in the
X0021, if you look closer to that recall you will see that all 4 rear backing plates where changed complete, the new backing plates
used the 462 band, so at best the interchange is seriously wrong and should be corrected. SORRY THIS IS ALL BUNCHED UP - I CUT AND
PASTED IT. BTW I DON'T USE THE FORUM AND FRANKLY PRIVATE MESSAGES ARE A PAIN IN MY ASS AS I HAVE TO LOG ON AND THEN THE SYSTEM DOES
SHIT LIKE ABOVE. I AM GOING TO TURN THEM OFF. SORRY

The Pedantic Mechanic That's as reasonable as using the mail list instead of the forum. Most people that use email have PM turned off anyway.
Not everyone is willing to expend effort to format their responses. I clean up everything and remove extra carriage returns and what not. Then I preview and proofread it before I hit "submit". Some people don't even delete the chain of responses in their posts, and you see a one word or one line response with a page or two of previous thread back-and-forth before or after it. Some people hit the "quote" button, and then imbed their response inside the quote box.
Do what you can to share what you know.
