Good afternoon from a wet New Mexico
Installing two new domestic penguin air conditioners. Front one went on with no problems at all.
It appears the rear one is going to be challenge. Any one run into this problem and what was the best way to solve this. I think if you have tried this unit, it hangs over the back.
Thanks
Marcel

Marcel,
I have actually seen a couple of coaches with the rear unit mounted 'backwards'. It looks pretty good. Kind of gives it a more streamlined, symmetrical look.

Nice try Carl
Yesterday I decided to relocate the unit about 7 1/2 inches forward and
about two inches to the left to clear the bathroom module. I used an
aluminum sheet about a good 1/16" thick, made a template and will secure
her down in the morning. The large aluminum sheet is fastened with 3/16
pop rivets and gray sealing tape to room and new penguin will be a bit
more forward inside and should look fine. A bit of a project but
overall I think I should be happy with final look. Thanks to all for
comments and suggestions. I am working on a 1975 Glenbrook complete gut
out and refurbishment, rebuild 455, Manny tranny, new fantastic fan and
two new penguins, new brakes and all new windows. Will be redoing the
air bags. This forum, Jim Bounds, and Jim Kanomata also have been very
forthcoming with ideas.
This has become a great project and plenty of good fellowship with other
GMCers in the area

Yep, flip it around. I did that with Carrier Low Profiles. The original one did hang over a bit, and the PO cut the railing to accommodate that.
Any top fan unit will probably cool better going backwards down the road...
Air goes in the coil and out the top.
Top fan units cool better. Carrier, Coleman Mach...

""Turn it around; doesn't matter which way it faces as long as you don't try to run it going down the road.

We find that the low profile units tend to be longer, this is what is
creating the problem for most of us.
We sell Colman, Dometic, and Atwood
I prefer the low profile unit as it creates less drag.

On the Carrier low profile and most others the inside air is drawn in from the front and exits the rear. Diverting it foward reduces air flow. So in the rear having the unit installed what some say is "backwards" actually causes improved cooling of the cabin. On the Carrier low profiles it improves air flow through the condenser as well while traveling, because condenser air moves from the front of the coach through the condenser and out the top of the unit.
