Good morning all
My friend and fellow gmc owner has to replace the ignition switch in his
coach. What is the easiest way to do this, and are there adjustments I
need to watch out for.
Thanks
Marcel in Santa Teresa, N.M.

The ignition switch is on the lower part of the steering column and held on with two screws and is adjustable. Sometimes the switch will wear out of adjustment. Try loosening the screws a little and slide the switch a little and see if it will engage. The lowest switch is the neutral safety / back up light switch and needs to be adjusted also, I usually put selector in reverse and adjust the safety switch to where the back up lights are on then tighten. Both switches can be replaced with column in coach, just got to stand on your head.

Isn't the ignition switch where the key goes in?
If so, it's not a hard job to replace. You need a steering wheel puller with the tool that pushes down in the small plate to remove a spring type ring.

The key goes in the lock cylinder. The cylinder turns and moves a rod that actuates the switch, which is farther down the column, like Chuck said.
