Just curious, in recent years the big three are putting 17" wheels on their one ton trucks. Ford is metric 8X170mm but Dodge, and I thing Chevy still use 8X6.5
Would these work on the GMC? Maybe with hub center rings for the Dodge as they have a larger hub.
So the rims and tires are plentiful, would that be an alternative to Alcoas?

As long as you don't change the actual inflated diameter of the tire too much, the suspension system will retain the ability to control the wheels, but ride quality may suffer if the tires are noticeably shorter in height compared to the 16 or 16.5 tires. You can't increase the diameter of the rear tires very much, at least on mine, I don't think I could go much more than an inch more in diameter (that would be a half inch larger all the way around). I run 225/75/16 on mine.
Since nobody replied...
Get some setups from the local boneyard and try them on and let us know what does and doesn't work!

And, if you spent some time in my friend's welding shop, you'd see that
they ALWAYS have some rims to be repaired which were damaged when the low
profile
tires failed to protect the rim from an obstacle.
Besides, they look awful -- JMHO.

The origin of my question is this, you find a mostly original coach on craigslist for a good price and before you can do anything you have a dilemma, you can drop $1200 on new 16.5" tires or you can drop a whole bunch more on new Alcoas and tires so you're several thousand into your restoration before you can safely move the coach. I bet that phenomenon sends a lot of people running for the hills.
Meanwhile, kids are buying Dually trucks and the first thing they want to do is spend a pile of money on rims and stupidly large tires. So 17" dually rims show on CL with some frequency and there is no shortage of tires for them.
Here is a spec, I have no idea if it's close enough.

Here is a spec, I have no idea if it's close enough. The 245/65R17 is only about 0.8 inches larger in circumference which translates to about 1/2 mph variation from the 225/75R16 tire. It has a tread width about an inch wider than the 225/75R16, which will reduce gas mileage (enough to notice at the pump? I dunno). The 265/60R17 is about the same diameter, but the tread is even wider.
I don't think anyone makes a 225/70R17 LRE tire, but the size would be almost identical to the 8.75R16.5 OEM in tread width and circumference.
