Finally getting around to installing a rear view camera system. I mounted the screen just above the rear view mirror, and was wondering where the best location for the camera mount would be? It seems that mounting it at the top of the rear window would give a great view, but how do I run the hookup wires? Can I drill a hole through the fiberglass panel above the window (the small horizontal ledge), or will I run into obstructions? Is there a better location? My system comes with two cameras, so I can also mount another one elsewhere if alternate views would be helpful.

I figured it's better to tap into the group's collective experience before drilling holes!

George,

I mounted my camera inside, looking through the top left of the rear
window. That window is covered with dark film, so I cut a section out for
the lens. The view of the toad and overtaking traffic could hardly be
better. It's virtually invisible from outside and since I have a closet
there, from the inside also. Wiring would not be a problem, but mine is
wireless anyway. Borrowing the power from the tail light just below there
reminds me to turn on the "running lights" in the daytime so I'll have the
rear view. The screen replaced the worthless rear view mirror.

George - halfway thru installing mine now. It is a Peak wireless unit, camera mounts to the license plate bracket. I had to remove the driver rear "cabinet" and the upholstered cardboard, then fished the wires up to the license plate housing. I'm using mine as the rear view mirror as well, so running it off switched ignition power. PO had run extra lines thru the channel, so just need to hook it all up.

I like your two-view system, I'd use one pointed straight down for a backup camera.
Good luck!

I was planning on using the second hookup for a right side blindspot mirror since the birch has no windows on that side that the driver can use. Was thinking of trying to tie it to the right hand turn signal so that the default view is rearward except when the turn signal is on, then it is the right side camera.

I mounted the camera in the middle of the spare tire mount as I didn't have a towd as I figgered it would give me a view close to
ground level.

I am going to be towing a VW and so that probably ain't gonna work as all I'll see is VW!

Remember that the rear panel is full of wires so be careful if you drill any holes in it!

I mounted ours at the top of the rear window, on the outside. Ran the wires in the channel around the back hatch,
and held the wire in place with appropriately sized vacuum hose (the size depends on how big the gap is, and it varies
depending on how well centered the rear hatch is; on ours, not very). From there, the wire runs under the coach along the left
frame rail to the front, and in through the firewall. Figured I didn't want to add any more holes in the shell where water
can get in -- it's hard enough to get these beasts sealed up as it is.

Thanks for the replies. I like the idea of using the rear panel attachment screw up on top of the rear window. Running the wires along the channel would be a nice way to run the cables.

George,
Here is a picture of the mounting of the Rear View Wired camera that I installed in 2001. You can see it mounted on the curved part above the rear window. You want to run the wires inside the coach, you do NOT want to run them outside as they will become problem. Run them along the upper inside side behind the cabinets and they will be just fine, not hard just takes a little time to do it right.

Here's how I did mine:

http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g6755-26quot-3byada-backup-camera-with-5-26quot-3b-dash-monitor-26quot-3b.html

The camera signal is 'wireless' but the camera needs power. Not wanting to use a light circuit, I ran the power cable to the front and switched it at the dash. My headliner is somewhat unique as it has a removable drop panel down the center so it wasn't too difficult.
