But, now am having trouble finding the new crossover # to the replacement muffler... I'd appreciate some help from the group and any advice you'd offer me..

The coach is all origional, paint origional, interior has been updated with new carpet and ceiling but all is origional.. Qk couple shots below Hope this isn't to much..

Bill,

I blew out a muffler on the way to Bean Station, TN earlier this month.
Replaced both with FlowMasters in Knoxville. No big deal.

JimB is out west at the moment but I would contact Jeff Sirum at Alex
Sirum GMC for advise on your replacement needs.

Welcome to the GMC cult or group or...
Lucky living in Tampa area. Two good GMC shops within an easy drive.
Join the GMC Sunshine Statesmen Group, they do extensive rallies through out Central Florida.
Muffler is not anything special. Any good muffler shop, with a large lift can install one easily. I used the same shop that Jim used and had a complete system installed.
GMC = Get More Cash. LOL
Use it and enjoy it.

Jon,

IIRC the OEM exhaust system is 2.5 in OD not 2.25in so if I am correct this muffler won't fit.

However, I did a search on the Walker Muffler website and came up with this muffler with a 2.5in ID inlet and outlet.

http://www.walkerexhaust.com/catalog/epa-converters/e-catalog-lookup/18175

My knee replacement re-hab is not far enough along to get under The Blue Streak and measure the mufflers if somebody in the USA can
do so we can compare the measurements to the 18175 and see if it will fit.

BTW I bought two mufflers for Double Trouble several years ago from a GMC vendor (who shall go un-named) for $70.00 each.

Summit is a good place to get mufflers. The walker mufflers I got from them were more expensive then the 18525's at about $50 each. They were a 3 pass low restriction muffler that used to be called hemi mufflers back in the day they have a dimple on both end plates to allow for the internal u bends.

I double checked my emails. And the walker 18425. Is the one i ordered and installed. Here is my original post when i installed it:

that muffler, walker #18425 did in fact fit. I will not go out and recommend going this route, you can make your own decisions. But for the price, it got my GMC back on the road quickly and cheaply so I can be camping next week in it. If I have to replace a muffler again soon, I can live with that.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/wlk-18425/overview/

for the record, I have what I would say is factory 2 1/4" exhaust. exhaust manifolds, two mufflers up front, then the Y after the mufflers to the rear.

I believe my current muffler system came from factory.

that part number was a cross reference that came from a different, more expensive walker Part number in the gmcmi parts index.

but for the disclaimer: obviously this has to be a cheap muffler. at least it is too inexpensive not to be. installation for me was a breeze, couple of things that were in my favor that I was aware of with the job, that probably would not be for the next person attempting a muffler replacement. I did remove the pipe between the muffler and exhaust manifold to install. and my flange bolts were replaced last year, so came right out.

IIRC mine, before conversion to 3" & rear muffler, was 2.25" from the engine to the Y and 2.5" from the Y to the rear.

The OEM down pipes were 2 1/4 inch, the mufflers in/out we're 2 1/4 and the y pipe expanded to 2 1/2 inch -- then 2 1/2 for the long pipe.

Jon,

I apologize, I was incorrect, turns out that I was laboring under the misconception that the WHOLE system was 2.5. inches. As noted
by yourself and several others the pipes from the exhaust manifolds are 2.25 as is the "Y" pipe ends that connect to the mufflers.

I am spelling all the above out to burn it into core memory so I don't make the same mistake AGAIN! ;-)

I did discover something interesting. I couldn't find the mufflers in the GMCMI Parts Interchange which was because I was looking
under ENGINE. Turns out they are located under the FUEL section. This mimics the Parts Book 78Z.

At first I thought that was really dumb then I thought about it a bit and realize it did make sense, kinda - sorta.

Exhaust is burned fuel.

At any rate thanks for providing the follow up message below, I went back to the GMCMI Parts Interchange (Spring 2014) and found a
bunch of mufflers there including the 18425 (it is listed as a NAPA part).
