Hi Vincent,
Buy and carry a spare ignition module if your coach has HEI distributor. These can fail without warning at any time. The modules are small and easy to change without removing the distributor from the engine. Just pull the distributor cap, remove the rotor (two screws) then remove the two screws holding the module in place, unplug the module from the connectors at each end, renew the heat transfer grease and replace the module. If your coach starts to run ragged or misses it could be fuel starvation (likely plugged filter in the front of the carb) or it could be a failing module.
As Don suggested be sure to stop at GMC Coop in Orlando. Jim Bounds and his crew have about as much hands on experience with these great old coaches as anybody. Good, fun folks, too.

Jerry,
I'm going to modify your recommendation slightly:
1) buy a spare module
2) remove the one in your distributor
3) install the new spare
4) put the one you removed in your spares kit
By doing this IF your module fails you have one KNOWN to be good for a spare!

All excellent suggestions.
The failure mode of the ignition module in GM HEI systems is as sudden as if you had turned the ignition switch off, only that it won't come back to life.
The genuine GM module parts seem to be longer lasting than the ones you get at the local parts store.
I always get genuine GM ignition modules in the GM package whenever possible. Any GM dealership should have them in stock.
I've had two GM ignition modules fail in my lifetime, both in cars fortunately and not the motorhome. One failed on a freeway in Houston and because I immediately recognized the problem, I was able to coast off the freeway into a parking lot; the other failed on a rural road. In both cases I had to get a ride to buy a new module.
Installing the new module and keeping the old known working module for a spare is the voice of wisdom and good judgement.
The old points ignition systems have their advantages, but these HEI systems sure do put out a good spark.

Vincent's first post referred to a 73 coach -- they did not come with HEI.
But it would be excellent for Vincent to question the seller on the point before going to retrieve the coach.

I will be preaching your sugestion to my customers.
These modules have been giving us fits lately and even our the equipment
does not see fault at idle speed.
