Hello,

seeing a lot of people having converted the rear area to a fulltime bed,
they always use a board to put the mattress on.

Why not use slatted frames, like the ones from Ikea

One thing I like about the slatted frame is, that the two sides are a
bit decoupled.

Good to know that noone has a real reason not to use them :)

well it is a bit of a downer when you break a slat when you leap into bed with enthusiasm (or more likely collapse onto it in exhaustion these days)........I had a sofa with those and had to replace a few slats over the years.

I've been living with these slatted frames my whole life and have never
ever broken a slat. Broken a bed I have :)

We are currently thinking the other way. If it is cold outside we find we are cozy with a nice blanket but that cold seems to penetrate from below. I find myself waking and turning over to "warm the other side". We are thinking of an insulation barrier of some kind. Guess that could lay on the slats. I would use a sheet warmer but many times we are dry camping.

Are you using an air mattress? If so, you need as many blankets between you and the mattress as you have on top of you. Maybe more. That's a down side to an air mattress. It can take so many blankets that you might as well have a real mattress.
