While I have the driver side panel out I thought it would be a good time to repair the mount for the side mirror, all 4 bolts are stripped and won't stay tight. This is what I found inside.
Is this what's supposed to be there, there is obvious signs of previous fiberglass work and the L bracket stiffener looks to be an afterthought.

Here are some under dash pictures I took for another project. Several of the photos show the drivers mirror mount plate.

note the lower left rivnut on the reinforcing plate needed some JB Weld to keep it from spinning. I also used antisieze when remouting the mirror to prevent the screw from freezing to the rivnut. (The wires in the center of the plate are for the Ramco mirrors.)

Thanks, that shows me what I need, the plate is supposed to be tight to the FRP not spaced out 1/2" with goo in between.

I don't recall the rvnuts showing on the outside. There is a slight gap between the metal plate and the interior FRP. Therefore I believe the rvnut is only through the plate

If you do not make the mounting secure, you'll not be able to see much once
on the highway as it will vibrate and blure the vision.
The plate is Tig Welded to the back support beam.
The skin itself will not tantalize the mirror from wind waves. .

It's bolted to the framework not welded, maybe that's from the original incident. but there weren't any signs of welding on it or the frame just the bolt holes.
