Just wondering
My speedo odemeter is about 12% off compared with tomtom. I believe tomtom to be right. Also compared with the milage. Just wondering why it can be so much off. That is showing less mph. It is the original with a new cable, butnow without powersteering. Manny trans rebuild in theNetherlands.
Otherwise I found a limit to Olga s abilitys. We wanted to visit a castle at Lindoso, northern Portugal. A rainy day, a not so steep incline and wet cobblestones. New Micheline summer tires. Just spinning, leaving rubber on the cobbles, bad smell
Going to Paris, France tomorrow, seeing the. http://albert-kahn.hauts-de-seine.net/venir-au-musee/informations-pratiques/http://albert-kahn.hauts-de-seine.net/venir-au-musee/informations-pratiques/

Tire size and gear ratio will affect the speedo.
12% sounds like the gear ratio may have been changed.
There are adapters that will correct the accuracy.
Here us a link for tire size conversion:

Not helpful, but I found the speedometer on my GMC to be off as well, by
around 4-5mph.
Luckily, we did not experience any cobblestone while touring

Peer good you did not meet the cobblestones, but then you are meeting all these interesting people. Wish I could have same pf these to do my steering.

They both are 12% LOWER then TomTom. Like 50 mh is 56 on Tom. Same with the odometer. 100 miles will be 112 on The dashboard app

I found the same as Peer. Mine is off about 3 with the original 3.07 final drive. Perhaps it is tires, although I got the size (16") that the experts assured us were the same diameter. For a short time I had a 3.55 final drive with the converter. Still off. Then I had a 2.73 for a shorter time. Bought a converter... Still off. Now I have a 3.21 with the special 3.21 metal gear and yup... still off.
TomTom says the speed is off and mileage is off. Mile markers say mileage is off. I think maybe it is off.

The problem could be, that it is off the wrong way. ie. I drive faster
than it shows. And *if* I were like the average driver I come to notice
in the US, I would be able to plaster the whole interior of my GMC with
speeding tickets :*)

If you have 2.73 gears installed instead of the standard 3.07 your speedometer will be reading 50 mph when you are going 56.23mph. Some folks have installed a 'new' final drive and ended up with a 2.73 ratio from a car.

Rob,
they drive different on the Interstate than on the Autobahn.
I wouldn't be able to quantify it as better or worse, as it is a
different situation. On the Autobahn it is common to expect speed
differences of 100+km/h, in the US, everybody drives a similar speed.
Well, except that stupid German that only goes just below the speed
limit in his history vehicle :D

Peer,
Yes, I have driven on the Autobahn many times. Drivers are much more "disciplined." After all for the most part the are Germans! ;-)
You stay out of the left lane unless you are REALLY moving! If you are in the left lane and a vehicle approaches from behind and
flashes their lights GET THE HELL out of the lane because they are going a hell of lot faster than you are. In the USA it is not
uncommon for drivers to sit in the left lane and do the speed limit because "THIS IS MY LANE AND AS LONG AS I DO THE SPEED LIMIT TO
HELL WITH ANYBODY ELSE!"
I am going to disagree with "everybody drives a similar speed" as far as Texas goes, in Houston anyway. It is not uncommon for
people in the left lane to be going 15+ mph above the speed limit and the right lane to be at or below the speed limit.
Regards,
Rob M.

Your description of the Autobahn brings back pleasant memories of the left
lane and a Saab turbo ....Hmmm, I wonder if it could be made to fit a GMC
?
