Although it was written 9 1/2 years ago. As I was cleaning up and straightening up my shop I found this article in a case of Duracool.
I thought It might be helpful to the group.

G'day,

IIRC someone here has noted that the molecules in Dura Cool are larger than the molecules in the other fluids hence it stops / slows
down leaks.

Regards,
Rob M.

It would be a pretty small leak that could be blocked by a slightly bigger molecule.....seems like a job for mythbusters......just so long as they do not blow up a GMC at the end!

It is true. The Duracool molecule is much larger than the R12 molecule and the R134a molecule is smaller than the R12.

Before I installed Duracool the first time I used to have to add one can of R12 per year. After installing Duracool I went 5 years without having to install any more. I had to replace a hose so eventually I did reinstall Duracool.

The R12 was probably leaking from the compressor clutch seal.

Emory, Did you use the "duraseal" mentioned in the article?

Have yet to read anything bad about Duracool so I do see it in my future Smile

Duracool is a win win on the GMC but think twice if you install it in a later model vehicle. My Dodge minivan has a computerized AC system and the head pressure with Duracool was too low for the cooling fans to come on.
