Thanks for the compliment re the Escalade 3rd brake light on our Buckeye Cruiser. I saw this setup on other GMC's and, like you, liked the look.
As I recall, this light was used on the 1990's Escalades but really I don't re3member for sure. The lights inside are LED's and, as a result. are quite directional. I had the rear headliner cap out (through the LH rear window) and wired it up through an electronic controller mounted by the LH tail lamp that caused the light to come on when the brake lights were on but not the turn signals.
Once wired I held the light in place and had a co-worker stand back about 5 car lengths to watch for maximum brightness as I adjusted the angle. once the position of optimum brightness was identified I was able to make spacers to hold it in place while I screwed the light in place. As I recall the top edge was about 1/2" above the roof.
The light has about 5 or so places where it is screwed to the roof. I made a template or these locations and transferred them to the top so I would know where to drill the holes. When I installed the screws I gave each hole a shot of sealer then installed the stainless screws onto which I had places a small rubber washer backed up with a flat washer through the sealer and into the light. I also sealed well the hole I had to drill for the electrical wires.
At this point the light was mounted and working but there was a gap all across the upper edge. We taped completely around light and completely filled the underside of the light and all around with a non-hardening black sealer. As I recall it was RT10 bit I'm not sure.
