I tried last season to pull mine apart and it wouldn't budge... I'm planning to use a Hi-Lift jack this time.
I'll search locally - but I'll be surprised if I can find the ceramic-epoxy coating locally. Is that the only option?

I used a 2 ton floor jack to separate. I threaded several wraps of 1/8 " wire rope through the U joints and went to the cup up top and axle on bottom. Took a lot of force. Separated with a bang

I use an air chisel to separate them - clamp one piece in a vise...use the air chisel against the other piece...and drive them apart. Use a blunt ended attachment on the air chisel of course.

All this can be avoided by applying grease to the zerk provided on the shaft. Even without the upper boot in place, most water is forced out This means YOU Mr. or Mrs PO. Once in 15 years does not cut it. There is also a zerk on the lower U joint whlie you are there.

Rob,
You need to get the new lower boot from Alex; it fits much better at the
top than any I've seen before and shouldn't admit any water.

Ken,
NOW you tell me! I'm back in Sydney! ;-)
I'll drop Alex a note and get him to send a couple of them to John Sharpe in Humble, TX.
Thanks,
