Does anyone have a source or after-market part number for the boot (bellows) that goes on the ends of the shift cable. I found the entire cable listed on Jim K's site and also on the GMCmhparts site and the GMCMI parts interchange. It is figure 17.045 of the parts manual item 2 but that shows up as the entire cable and is listed as no longer available.
I did call Jim K. and left him a voice mail. I also asked for Nick but was told that he also was not there. Jim will probably call me back tomorrow but if anyone has the above information, I would appreciate it in case Jim does not have what I need.

Ken,
Check in McMaster Carr they show some under rubber bellows.
I've never tried the part houses, so far haven't needed one.

Thanks. I tried MC Master Carr earlier today and did not find an appropriate fitting one.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Jim K. did call me back about 10 minutes ago but I did not hear the cell phone. (Neither did Laurie) So I called Jim again and got his voice mail. We are playing telephone tag a the moment.
With my hearing I seldom hear the cell phone ring.

Ken--would something like this work?

I bought one of those and it didn't work. Also later two different boat supply places came up with the same thing. The wide end was way to large and it was also too short.

Jim K. called me late last night and again this morning. He did not have a solution other than to find one used. Blaine is trying to to find me a used one.
Today I fashioned one for myself. I have no idea how long it will last. I took a piece of 3/8" ID vinyl hose 1.5" long and inserted a piece of 3/8 OD surgical hose about 5" long inside 1/2 of it. The stiff vinyl hose slid over the end of the fixed part of the cable housing. The other end of the surgical hose fit loosely over the movable part of the cable. I siliconed the end of the surgical hose to the movable part of the cable. I also wire wrapped the siliconed end of the surgical hose with .025 safety wire to hold it tighter in place. The surgical hose will stretch and compress and seems to work well. This ought to work in the interim to keep the water out until I can come up with a suitable bellows either new or used.
One person tried to get me a used one off of a parts coach and he found that that one was already in crumbling and in poor shape.
Thanks for all of the ideas. I'll follow up on them.

Ken,
I don't get back to Sydney until March 27th and probably won't make it out to my workshop until Monday but when I do I'll check the
Harley parts books I have to see what I can find.

Not yet Rob. I was working all day on a solution to fix this today. I will call him for a more permanent solution.
