There goes my dream of building an ethanol engine for the coach. Razz
I do hope this is accurate, but not going to hold my breath.

Besides the food price issue, the environmental outlook is cloudy, at best. Nov 2013 thread:

Ethanol from Corn is dubious at best, however there are already other processes that make it from other agricultural wastes
which make much more sense and there is a lot of research ongoing.

Current boom in gas production and low price will not last and the case for ethanol will again become compelling.

Pete,

Even at 100$/barrel, ethanol is hard to make cost effective in BTU/$ without a federal subsidy. (We pay extra in taxes to get crumby fuel that used to work better in a few out of tune pre-cat passcars. - I was There.)

This will be a major blow to the GMC community. What are we going to blame lack of maintenance on now? The Russians??

We hugely subsidize Oil as well......both at the front end and afterwards cleaning up the mess it makes (never mind the trillions spent ensuring a world wide supply).

Its a hugely complex problem.....and not one that has any easy answers.
