I am tired of hearing things being misattributed to the laws of Thermodynamics.
I wonder how many readers even know how many laws there are or can tell us what they are without looking it up on the Internet.
Probably very few, if any.
There have been so many falsehoods and misinterpretations of this that I am done with it and will not longer post anything to the Thermostat thread.

I never grasped thermodynamics, I still don't. I stick to empirical results, and let those of you who have the c.v. hash out the theory. Me 'n' Georg Ohm get along fairly well, though.

Well I took thermo classes but don't specifically remember the laws or how many there are. Between thermo and fluid dynamics I wouldn't even attempt to make a well founded argument.
However I also had an engine that just would not come up to temp. Upon investigation the problem was not theoretical.

Well Emory,
I've got no idea what transpired on the thermostat thread.
But you are correct, sir. When I first read this post I knew immediately that I could not recite or hardly even recall the first and second laws of thermodynamics or remember which one was which.
But what I did immediately recall was that after the first and second laws had been established, the theoreticians realized there was something more fundamental; what to call this more fundamental principle? The Zeroth law of thermodynamics of course, because zero comes before 1 and 2.
If the best minds in the field can overlook a fundamental principle for a time, we can all take a pass on not recalling the 1st and 2nd laws.
Just prior to writing this, I reviewed the 1st, 2nd and Zeroth laws and still, only a few minutes later, it's the Zeroth law that easily comes to mind; I guess it's the story that I like.
And to be a bit contrarian , in the final analysis, or maybe the zeroth analysis, doesn't it all come down to thermodynamics?
We do look forward to meeting you someday. We have long admired your practical methods of solving problems.
With the very best regards,
Don and Susan Jeffers
