While looking through some old GMC files today, I ran across the trip
report I wrote after our GMC trip to Alaska in 2000. Refreshed my memories
of one of our best trips. I know I made it available at the time, but some
one anticipating such a trip may find it interesting now. It's a little
outdated ($1.36 gasoline!), but not completely, maybe.

It's 132Kb so I won't try to post it to GMCMhPhotos unless Bdub says it's
OK -- and possible. Drop me a note if you want me to send it to you.

Don't be silly. Of course it's alright. Post some photos to go with it.

I've been talking about doing this for 10+ years. I will plan on being in
this rolling rally. Names I had back then that were interested are Phil
Singleton, Dan McKinnon, Ken Burton, Eric Henning, Andrew Wiegel, Emery
Stora, Jeff Seibert and Andy Tessler. Don't know if these individuals ever
made that trip.

I have received both trip reports done by Dave Ireland of Williams Lake.
One trip they took 6 weeks and the other 8 weeks. I have his info and will
forward it to whomever wants it.
He said that the 6 week one left everyone wanting more. The 8 week one
they all felt was too long.

The Plan is to start with a Kick Off Rally with the Cascaders at a place
south of Seattle then a weeks rolling rally to the interior of Washington
State ending in Kelowna BC Canada. There can be meet up places as we head
north from Kelowna like Kamloops, Prince George and Dawson Creek for the
start of the Alaskian Highway.
My dad was working on this highway when he took sick and returned to
Edmonton where he passed away shortly thereafter. I was 2 years old.

you can contact me direct at Dwayne.jacobson@gmail.com

We'll be singing that song "North to Alaska"

Send it to Ken. He can convert it to a pdf, and post them both to a "North
to Alaska" album. There's almost always interest in the subject.

Yes, I'm still interested. I was going to do it 2 years ago and never completed the trip. I have flown it many times both in summer and once in the winter. Looking down from 500 or 5000 feet and only touching ground at airports or small grass strips is not the same as seeing it on the ground.

Thanks, I managed to get it through bdubs link.

A little background. Im in my late(r) 50's with one kid in Med school and the other with a couple more years at NC State studying Areonautical Engineering (smart kids, must be from their Mum) We are from Scotland, arriving here with my work at IBM in 2000. Now US Citizens and working for a much better Company than what IBM had become....
Rented a 22ft brand new Winnabago Class A (build quality pretty poor) in 1987 for two weeks in the Rockies, covered 3000 mile and loved it and rented a Class B in Florida for a week in the late 90's with the kids and that was fun too. Parents came over a few times and rented RVs in US and Canada as well.
Getting an Rv has always been in my retirement plans to do the 49 States and Canada adventure, and it was an article on the BBC website that got me into GMC motorhomes.
So plan is to get GMC in good running order once kid #2 graduates and gets employed and then use it for weekend and some longer trips for a few years before finally biting the retirement bullet in early to mid 60's. Which one to get is a big question. I think I and CFO would like seperate shower, and double bed at rear but climbing over eachother in the middle of the night would not be as much fun as it was in our 20's! So immediate plan is to go visit as many different owners as possible, perhap come to a rally, and see what is likely to work for us.
I'm a Mech Eng, have built a couple of cars and several engines over the years but have no particular wish to have to do much of that so most personal attention will to increase reliability, comfort and appearance. These are wonderful old machines and look so modern even today. Not a fan of the 1970s decor at all, but could live with it to start with in the right coach.
Whats the feeling about the stetched coaches? Looks a good way to get a real bed in the back
